The Bohème "Rouge et Noir" was kind of a pre-production Bohème recognized by only one ring: http://www.fountainpen.de/rouge-noir-rouge.htm
(Same with the "Noir et Noir" http://www.fountainpen.de/noir-noir.htm) The fountain pens had no rings at the grip section.
Due to their own history and due to trade mark reasons Montblanc decided to change the name and the design to the three rings.

Oh, I just noticed you are brand new, sorry. Search the forum for "nibmeister". There are several excellent professionals who regrind nibs to the size and shape you want.

]I hope it won't spoil your fun if I tell you that MB love letter ink is Herbin Opera Rouge (a favorite ink of mine) plus scent. MB made such a successof this ink that they followed it with 'seasons greetings ink' which was a dark blue brown cololur also by Herbin - Maybe the 'Moon Dust (also a very fine ink).

I have tried Herbin Opera Rouge, and the inks are not the same. MB Loveletter is a dark, rich, saturated colour, and flows wetter than other MB inks. Herbin Opera Rouge is one of the darker Herbins, but still considerably paler than the Loveletter, "pinker", and with more shading.

As for MB Seasons Greetings, it is brown -- whereas Herbin "Moon Dust" is a subdued purple colour. I have both of these inks and they are not even in the same colour family. So, I am a little confused here : )

Since you have used these inks I will happily bow to your opinon and take note of it.
As you will have found ink varies from batch to batch and I recently put on record the opnion that the ink in cartridges often varies from the same label in bottles.

It may be that the batches of ink Herbin made for MB to sell as 'loveletter' was different to the shade bottled as their own Opera Rouge.

By a strange coincidence I was given a pack of MB lloveletter carts an hour ago. I have a bottle of Opera Rouge somehwere around here. I will compare.

Meanwhile I would appreciate your advice about finding a full range of Boheme pens. Many internet dealers don't sell any MB pens, and those that do seem to have a narrow range on offer.

I'm pleased to hear that you like the Herbin range - I find quite a lot of prejudice against them

I am not especially attracted to MB in general but after seeing this boheme video I must say that pen has an interesting mechanism!

Thanks for the video - that's the sort of demo that sold me on a Boheme. It was only after using one that I appreciated the clever auto locking device that keeps the nib from retracting while you are writing.

Recently, I brought my Boheme into rotation. It's such a beautiful pen, and I love the retractable nib:




Alas... the XF writes too fat for my preference. I know I could send it to a nibmeister, but... eh. I cleaned the Boheme and took it back out of rotation. It sure is a beauty, though.

Meanwhile, I just picked up some MB cartridge packs for my Boheme in Paris for 1.20 euros each!
