Full Version: Desk Pen and Base Mismatched

I picked this "set" up for a song on eBay, only to find that they don't match. But, I like both pieces. The pen is a Touchdown, in need of restoration. That's easy, and an appropriate base should be easy to find. I'd like to find a pen to fit the propeller base, does anybody have an idea what pen might fit into it?

Here's a close-up of the misfit, the pen has a step change in diameter but the holder has a diagonal end. There is a step inside the holder, but the pen won't go down that far. There's no seal at all and the pen will surely dry out.

Nice find. I actually like the propeller.

The propeller is awesome!

A "51" might do the trick in that receptacle-- they don't have any step in them. I've got a (possibly hopelessly) clogged Skripsert with a Stylpoint front end that might also serve, as it also lacks a step, so you might keep an eye out for that sort of thing.

PM me if the holder can be removed, I have a holder that will work with that pen.

I scored big at the Portland Pen Show. I found a Sheaffer base with the correct trumpet for the brown Touchdown pen, and I found a NOS Parker 45 desk pen that fits the propeller base perfectly. Thanks to Alan Brookings for both items. Then I dropped the Touchdown pen off with Sherrell Tyree to have her restore it as the sac was totally ossified. Total will be well under $100 for both complete desk sets in working condition.
Happy, happy Bill, to paraphrase a certain East Coast doctor.
