(I posted this in the Repair forum last week, and haven't gotten any response. Hope a Legacy I owner here can take a peek inside their pen. Moderators, sorry for the cross-post.)

Hi,

Recently I purchased a NOS Sheaffer Legacy (the first model, with squared ends), and when I unscrewed the section from the barrel, a black o-ring also came loose. I can roll it over the section's threads and screw the unit back together, but it always comes loose when unscrewing. In my Legacy II, there's an o-ring in a recessed part of the section, but the section appears differently designed than the Legacy I.

Where is this o-ring supposed to be located on a Legacy I, and how can I secure it to that location?

Thanks,

-Mike

I am not an expert, having just bought my first Legacy 1. But for what it's worth, my o-ring remains visible and gets squeezed between the section and the body when I put the pen together. I was wondering how tight it should be, and how it impacts the seal of the cap, if any. Steve

As a pen seller, the 'O' Ring is used only with a Legacy nib that is used with 'Touch Down' filling. If your Legacy is to be used with cartridges or has a conventional convertor, the 'O' ring can be disgarded. The 'O' ring if needed is pushed down the thread, as the barrel is screwed down it should locate itself.

You might want to look in the topic "Help Identifying my New Legacy," for more on that darn o-ring than you ever want to know...

Thanks for the responses! Glad to know the O-ring is supposed to be "removable" by design, i.e. my Legacy I is working correctly.
