Full Version: Cigar cases as pen carrying cases

There have been a few threads talking about converting cigar boxes into pen storage boxes. Well I was thinking - why not do the same for cigar cases.

From Xikar a nice single pen/cigar case:

From Carey Smoke Shop a two cigar case

From Central Chef?!

They're generally reasonably cheap - around $20-$30 but of course they can get very expensive if made by Davidoff or the like.

Just search Google for "leather cigar case" - there are so many out there...

I once saw a gentleman reach in his inside Sport Coat pocket, fish out a double cigar case, engraved with his initials, open it and withdraw a Montblanc 149.....next to it was a Partagas Cigar.
Now, there's a man of CLASS!

I don't smoke, but I thought it a unique combo.

Hi,

I now have about 10 cigar cases to take from 2-4 pens in various sizes, some telescopic some not some rigid some not, all work very well and the biggest easily fit my biggest pens.

I still use normal pen cases but the cigar cases are just as good, in fact Waterman make a pen case modelled on a cigar case (very similar to the Carey 2 finger ones only much more expensive). There are a few posts about them, some with links or picks if you search.

My only beef with cases of this nature is that the don't usually have separations in between the pens/cigars, so they wind up bumping against one another in storage.

Hi,

True, but you can get some rigid ones which have seperate tubes the lthe bigger sizes can easily accommodate large pens, Laban Mento, modern CS 100/Duro, Pelican M800, Sheaffer Balance II or Legacy.

Hopefully this shows what I mean, I also have 2 pens versions that are slightly shorter and another 4 pen version which is alot longer.

A crude search in Writing Instruments alone turned up quite a few threads on this, some with pictures. I find them great protection for larger pens that stretch the elastic of the portfolio style cases or won't fit in the sweet Levenger case. Cigar cases are stiff and rugged. They also make access to the pens easy.

If you are wearing a pocketless shirt and want to carry a large pen or two in loose fit pants, a small cigar case is a good trick.

BTW, I only use cases shaped to prevent the pens from striking each other.

I already use two cigar cases, one is a leather case for 5, it will hold 5 Esterbrook "J" sized pens. Maybe a bit larger for several of the tubes. My other one is from the 70's, leather covered plastic, hinged snap cover, holds 3 LARGE pens, my Pelikan 800, Sheaffer OS pens fit very well, I put a plastic peanut in the bottoms of the slots to keep the pens from rattling around. The only pen that won't fit in it is my Mabie Todd Swallow combo. This pen is just too long for just about anything.

I have some pix up here somewhere of both cases in other threads.

This one is just like my 5 finger case, just made for larger pen/cigars. My personal favorite, I keep hoping to find one like your's that will hold my larger pens.

At the risk of losing out on any more of them,I have found that one of the nicest cigar boxes to use in making a pen case
is the montecristo cigar box with the Michael Delacroix artwork on the top of it(made for the millenium). They come in 4
colors(blue, black, burgundy and green)and are 14"x 11" x 2". They just look the part of an elegant pen case, and with one
of gary leher's pentrays(from gopens.com)cut to size,can hold at least 18 pens.

BTW,I don't smoke--I happened to find them on fleabay, and saw that they would do the trick......

Gotta love this... a cigar case that looks like a pen!

So if you put a pen in it, it'll be like one of those Russian dolls...
