Full Version: New Pelikan M600 skipping

I just got a new Pelikan M600. What a beauty! The only thing is: the nib is skipping. And I don't mean every now and then; I mean at least once every other word. I don't think it is a flow problem because I tried writng upside down and it writes perfectly (except for being very scratchy). I notice that the skipping is minimzed if I angle the pen to the left and will not write at all if I angle the pen to the right. What do you suppose the problem is?
I would rather fix the problem myself than send it in. Do I simply need to get the proper sandpaper (maybe from Mr. Binder) and smooth it out by writing on that? Any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at the nib under magnification... it sounds like a nib alignment problem and you would not have to send it to Richard...
You should contact Chartpak and they will take care of it for you under warrantee... their service is fantastic...
I have a GO there right now that I screwed up that they are repairing under warrantee... you can't get better than that...

I would definitely send it back to ChartPak. They need to know when they have one slip through their QC and remedy the problem - also the least expensive way to solve it most likely.

Hi David,

This sounds like a baby bottom problem, which can actually happen in a single spot / single angle with a pen (I fixed many of those).

However, as this is a new pen, I would send it back to whence it came, for a warranty replacement.

HTH, warm regards, Wim

I agree with Wimg. Sounds like a case of the Baby Bottom Blues!! I had that problem with my M1000 when I first bought it. I sent it right back to Chartpak and one week later I had a FEDEX package at my door. Problem solved!!!

I noticed that Pelikan has had numerous problems with baby bottom on the M1000 and some of the other models. Email them and they will tell you how they want you to send the pen. I believe there is NO charge, you might want to contact them first but if you are the first owner then there should be no problems. Chartpak has excellent customer service and a very quick turn around!!!

If I send it to Chartpak, will they send me a brand new nib or a refurb? Since it's brand new, I would expect a brand new nib. Thanks, David.

David, you didn't mention what size nib it is. I'm very much a beginner around here, but it sounds to me like it may be an oblique nib (OM or OB or what not)?

I'm thinking this since you discribed it getting better when you angled left. Perhaps you just need to have it rotated more to the left?

Hi,

You should get a brand new nib.

Rap, sorry. I should have specified. It's a Medium. My M200 Medium writes buttery smooth.
By the way, what do y'all mean by the term "Baby Bottom"?

When I sent my M1000 for the same skipping issue, the pen came back with a brand new nib. Problem was solved and no problems since!!

Think about it laugh.gif
Seriously, I think it means the "sides" of the nib touch the paper whereas the "center" (where the ink should come out) is not touching the paper, thus making the pen to skip lots of times. Could be wrong though blush.gif
