I thought this would be a pretty cool project to do (idea taken from Dillon)

Pelikan $6.60/62.5ml = .106/mL
Sheaffer $5.50/50ml = .11/mL
Parker Quink $7.55/57ml = .132/mL
Noodler's $12/88.72ml = 0.135/mL
Lamy $7.25/50ml = .145/mL
Private Reserve $7.50/50ml = .15/mL
Diamine $12.00/80ml = .15/mL
Waterman $8.00/50ml = .16/mL
Omas $14.00/78ml = .18/mL
Mont Blanc $10.50/50ml = .20/mL
Aurora $10.50/45ml = .233/mL
J. Herbin $8.00/30ml = .267/mL
Sailor $13.50/50ml = .27/mL

True. I assumed Betty was using MSRPs. It would be interesting to do the same with the lowest online price for all of these.
Betty
Yes, all these are based on MSVP prices because it's more common to buy at the MSVP at regular stores. Maybe should do an online pricing thing too, but I'm not sure where it is cheapest.

So, Sheaffer and Pelikan still take the prize for value.

Pelikan's smaller bottle: $4.00/30ml = .133/ml

Cheapest ink here in the UK is (no surprise) Diamine at £0.068/ml ($0.12/ml) followed closely by Waterman at £0.076 ($0.133).

As a comparison Sheaffer is £0.085 ($0.144) and Pelikan (30ml bottle) £0.108 ($0.190).

BTW, do those USA prices include VAT?

MSRP = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price,
so the "V" in MSVP must mean, "Vendor," right?
I love acronyms!
Put your raincoats and rain hats on, because here comes the drooling, dancing bunny drool.gif :bunny1:

I didn't even notice that. I think it's interchangeable right? .

Dear all,

first post here - interesting subject. I seemed to recall someone posting a similar table based on best available (internet) prices on another board some time ago. I was not able to find that original posting, it must have expired - couldn't find it anyway. I did a web search and found this slightly out of date but fairly recent (not all companies quoted are still in business) summary

Link to Exceel sheet

Not really sure of its origins - I take no credit nor blame for content. BTW noodlers here in Sweden comes in just over .20/mL (over the counter) and I still have to travel quite a distance to get it. Interestingly that cost/bottle estimate is very close to what it actually cost to get a single bottle shipped from England!

Regards,

Par

EDIT: Well if you step through from the top level

you get more information and links to an apparently not very active discussion board on ink making!
