Well, as expected after reading several other posts, the bottle of PR Burgundy Mist that I got about 9 months ago has unquestionably "turned" from its original nice red-purple into light purple-light black color.
My question is - has anyone in FPN contacted Private Reserve to see what their policy is in this regard - if I send them the "turned" bottle, will they send me new Burgundy Mist to replace it? Or is it more a "use it (fast) or lose it" attitude?
I like all my other PR inks a lot ... this one started to change color as early as two-three months, but now the color is really quite unattractive. Kind of a weakish black or grey...ugh...nothing I want to use again, that's for sure.
This may not help (nor does it answer your question) but I finally added some red ink into my PR Burgundy Mist and now (at least) I like it and use it.... before that it was one of my most regretted ink buys.

I have found PR very customer responsive. I had a Burg Mist that developed the film/crud/ich etc. They sent me a new one and asked for a description of the box so they could narrow the production time. Then I complained about their Sherwood Fast Dry which bleeds something fierce and has no color resemblance to the regular "Smearwood". They sent me a new bottle of the regular Sherwood and I have just learned to use it in dry writers. I think their customer svc is fantastic so give it a try. How did you store it? Cool, dark and dry? No matter 9 mo it shouldn't turn IMHO. I like Burg Mist a lot so don't give up on it just yet. Good luck.

I've owned a couple of bottles of PR Burgundy Mist, and they both turned. I've given up on this ink. Same thing with PR's Fiesta Red. In both cases, the inks lost their reddish hues and acquired an increasingly brownish hue. I'm told that PR Black Cherry might have the same problem, but I don't know that firsthand. I'm beginning to think that this particular color range (burgundy, brick, wine, etc) must be particularly hard to achieve with modern ink dyes. PR's other inks all seem to hold their colors just fine.

Thanks, Charlie, Michele and JB - I will give PR Customer Service a try, if no go I may try mixing a little red in there and see if that helps "revive" it.
I have a bottle of black cherry which so far has been fine, but it is much newer, only 3 months or so. I'll report back if I have trouble with it. I hope not, because so far it's everything that I hoped Burgundy Mist would be.

Just adding another reply here for the record. I just took out my bottle of PR Burgundy Mist, which has been sitting for well less than one year in temperature controlled darkness, tightly sealed. It went from its original plum color to a black-plum color. Actually, I like the color it turned, but I don't like that it turned color. Before I purchased the bottle, having heard about its problems, I wrote PR. They said that there shouldn't be any more color-changing difficulties, but, if there were, they would exchange the problem bottle for a new one. I'm not going to bother; I've too many inks as is; I flushed it.

I have been a fan of Burgundy Mist, it's been one of my favorite inks. My bottle has turned too. I bought it on February 15, and it is now almost black.

I dug out my Moleskine daily journal and checked my entry for Feb. 15 where I first wrote with the Burgundy Mist, loaded the same pen with fresh ink from the bottle and wrote a line below what I had written six months ago. I'm not sure how the scan looks on your monitor, but the recent line looks like black ink while the old line looks... well, burgundy. (excuse the horrible handwriting, but it is my daily journal).
When I bought the ink I was afraid this might happen, but I liked the color so much I ordered it anyway. What's so odd is how it darkens in the bottle but not on the page.

This makes me wonder what's in it. I know that purple dymondwood (which is wood infused with dye, and pressed, comes in a variety of colors. People make some cool stuff with it) turns to an odd grey-brown if left out for too long. Same as gold dymondwood, though it doesn't change so drastically.
So this makes me wonder if they use similar dyes for these two products. And if there's any way to find that out...

I love all my PR inks but the only red I've had any luck with is the Dakota red. I have flow problems with Burgundy Mist, and Black cherry, in several pens. Lamy, Libelle, Rotring, even my Pelikan m600. I just end of flushing them all clean and put in a different ink. I love the colors but disappointed with the ink.

Update from me - PR did very happily provide new ink when I wrote to them about this problem. I did choose a different shade for the replacement.
I really like their Black Cherry - which I had before - so far I've been far more pleased with it than old "BM." I really hope it holds up ok. No flow problems for me - my Parker 45 fine loves it!
Yes, the color my Burgundy Mist turned to was somewhere between black and eggplant.

jbn, just FYI, they will replace your ink without a return if you write them a note. I was very pleased with their responsiveness.
