I recently purchased a Pelikan 400 with OM nib from Pam Braun. I just wanted to say that this is by far the nicest pen I've ever owned. The style is class. The nib is super smooth with perfect ink flow. I don't know if I got lucky or not with that but I am so thankful. :0)

You know, I still don't know what an OM nib is. Can you describe it? I keep thinking it's an extra broad, but not sure why I think that.

Is an Oblique Medium. This is, a medium nib slightly slanted, ground, towards the left -in most cases, to suit right handed writers-, or towards the right -for southpaws-. Is meant to correct the slight rotation of the pen and nib some of us do while writing, instead of keeping the nib perfectly aligned. In my case, it also produces a slight line variation that I like, although I've read many times here that it not meant to be for that purpose. I love OM and OB. They just suit my writing!.

Thanks, Ondina. Much clearer now. Looking forward to seeing your OM/OB writing in the international traveling journal again when it makes another round!

I really like Pelikan and MB OM's. Must be the way we hold our pens, for me they can be more comfortable than a standard round nib. I tend to rotate the pen CCW and this makes the slight angle on the left-footed OM perfect for me. Some rounded nibs seem to have a sweet spot that isn't as available at that rotation.

But - I don't own a single stock OM nib. tongue.gif Someday I'll do that. Had plenty of opportunities and can't say why I didn't take them. Guess I always figured I might have a nib customized to something and it's easier to start with the round nib than with the oblique.

The variation on a stock OM is very slight and many people won't notice it at all. But for me it's aoout the comfort. If I ever buy an MB, I'll be buying the OM. The one I tried was absolutely lovely.

If you get the chance, try a Montblanc (or Pelikan or other German factory obliques) from the 1950s or earlier - they're quite different from their modern counterparts, providing much more line variation and coming in a range of flex from almost none to full flex; amazing to write with (if you like that sort of thing).

I, too, have a 400NN Tortoise from the 1950's with the OM nib. I wrote with it for about 6 years and it is probably my favorite pen!
You're going to love this one, for sure.

What color did you buy?
