I am confused between the various Parker Duofolds Orange available. unsure.gif hmm1.gif

Would be grateful if someone could tell me what is a good price for this pen (new).

Thanks.

I sent Pam an email, but she is not available till the 7th,..............so maybe someone who has bought from her........I believe she has the best prices.

I would also like to know your personal views of this pen versus the vintage Big Reds.

I don't think the modern orange duofold is currently being made, is it?

So any one you find mint in the box would be one of the last ones out there, and thus costly.

When I was looking for the modern orange duofold centennial a year or so ago , I saw them from $250 used in great shape to $450 more or less mint.

Guess I am not really much help on this one, but I am sure someone will chime in. Maybe a WTB on the green board would be an option? J

Duofolds in orange are not produced anymore. Last time they were manufactured was 8-10 years ago. Look for a good store or two; they might still have one. And at a price they charged 8-10 years ago, too.

Thanks Mike.

What would that price be?

What would that price be?

$365.00 (International) to $425.00 (Centennial) as I remember retail.

Just wondering were the Red/Orange Duofold a regular model or LE model ?

As for the comparison original Big Red and Duofold Centeniel/International.
These 2 pens look alike but are different in many ways. Both are wonderful writers and I think the best thing you can do is get one of each so you can enjoy both world-the modern and the vintage.

when I was looking for my big red, I told docnib to let me know the next time he had one in the $80 range. He came through!

The red/orange Duofolds (and the lapis Duofolds too) which were made ten years ago were not LEs. Thank G. !

The modern orange Centennial Duofolds were introduced in 1992 I believe. They were listed as a "Special Edition" pen, whatever that means. The one I have was produced in 4Q 1995 according the the date code and is in near mint condition. I paid $350 for it last year at my local pen show without box and papers. I have subsequently acquired an original box for the pen which makes a nice display for the pen.

The new production red is pretty good, but still, in my opinion, a pale imitation of the original. The original is a piece of history, whereas the new is a recreation. There is no comparison, they are just completely different types of pen.

This here is a nice image that shows a visual comparison. The new production pen is 4th from the left.

The picture is from peterpen.dk, initially used in my earlier thread here

Having owned a modern Centennial Duofold (although not in the red) and now owning a Duofold Senior (aka "Big Red"), I wholeheartedly agree. While they were both made by the same company, they are nothing alike. Comparing the two might be akin to comparing two 'Vettes, a 1970s Chevette and a 1963 Corvette Stingray split-window coupe. They were both made by the same company. They have similar names. But there's no comparison: the older one is far superior, in both car and pen! wink.gif

Parker did make a new Limited Edition in orange. It was the Douglas McArthur pen.

That's correct; the International and Centennial DeLux Orange were regular production pens in the 1990's while the D. McArthur was a LE (basicly the same pen with a different engraving and packaging).

But there also was an even more recent LE in Orange: the Parker LE Duofold Big Red. This one must be only one or two years old.

Check Pensinasia for some images.
