I have two brown pens A Wahl Oxford & an Esterbrook double Jewel Copper, putting blue ink into them just didn't sit right though using black ink was ok
Anyway I ordered a sac from Cathedral Pens UK for the Wahl & on the invoice Ian had written a handwritten note in brown Diamine which looked gorgeous.
The Local shop only has Quink or Watermans & the only brown was Waterman's Havana. Having tried South Seas Blue before I was a bit dubious about the Havana but bought it anyway & have just tried it.
It gives a lovely rich brown shade that the scan does not do justice for colour accuracy. The scan shows plain unadulterated Havana I am well pleased with the result so far & a mix of blue black 5 + 1 darkens the ink nearer to the Diamine Golden Brown

I have all the Waterman inks, as someone suggested they are safe! and do wonderful mixing.
Havana is an attractive color and as you have found is a nice mixer in places where you think you should use Black.
I've done a small drop of black in South Sea and got a nice dark green. Don't know what Havana would do.

Agreed. When I purchased my first bottle, I wasn't sure I'd like using brown, but I'm on my third bottle this year and absolutely love the stuff - especially in a van gogh tortoise demonstrator!

I like Havana Brown. It washes out quite pink, however. This makes me a little uneasy. There seems to be a lot of red in the ink. I've used PR Chocolat and there seems to be less red. I'm contemplating trying Noodler's Walnut. However, I haven't had any staining issues using Havana Brown, and it is a nice color with good ink attributes.

Waterman Havana Brown is one my two favorite inks, the other being Waterman Florida Blue.

Me too - the high red content helps (makes it a good ink for mixing), and shading is very good as well.
