Greetings,

As you can tell I just signed up and honored to be in your company. I would appreciate some input on how to value and sell my pen.

I'm accumulating funds to start a restoration on my 1969 911. I've already sold off most of my vintage wristwatches. I realize that the pen might not fetch much but it would help.

The pen: Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 unused but filled once to test for leaks by me. I could have tested with water but I thought water might damage the pen. Anyway the pen is mint, not a single scratch or ding and is very shiny. From my research on 'Pentrace' I have concluded it was made in the late 1960's or early 1970's. Because on the clip ring it is stamped 'Germany' and has a 14K nib. All of the threads are crisp and shiny. The pen was never handled as it sat in an envelope in his credenza drawer all of these years.
I would like to post pictures but I do not know how. But if anyone would like pictures please email me.

The history of the Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 Diplomat: : I received this pen in 1998 from a friend who was a director of a Fortune 500 Company from 1954 to 1998. He was a large stock holder hence joining the board at 28 years old. When he retired in 1998 he gave to me his Miller desk and chair a Peal briefcase a Steuben trout and the Montblanc pen, Which he never used.

Its a nice pen, I'd like to keep it but I'd rather use the funds on my project. And besides I'm always dropping things.

Thank you for your help.

Regards, Mark

Hi Mark

Welcome to FPN and the MB forum!

Take a look at this this "pinned" thread...it will give you a link to another MB#149 article which will complement the article you read on Pentrace.
http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=60636

Others will no doubtedly chime in but the pen you describe will probably go for $300+/- USD, depending on how many people are shopping for one on the day you put it up for sale..that is if you try and sell it here or in Pentrace or in Ebay.

What will help of course is pictures...especially close-ups of the nib, the feed (the underside of the nib), the piston ring (the gold band at the piston end of the pen), a picture of the piston mechanism, unscrewed. Again similiar pictures to those that you saw on the Pentrace article!

Good luck...I have 3 of this vintage of the #149...so not in the market (unless the nib is an oblique M or B!!!...then pm me!!! and we can talk about it!! thumbup.gif )...but I suspect it will sell fast since it seems to be in great condition.
