Full Version: DUOFOLD: Size Comparisons

Hi all --

I apologize if every bit of what I ask is contained somewhere else, but I've been very curious about how a Duofold actually is to hold in the hand.

Probably most helpful would be to take it side by side with some Pelikans. But first, let me ask the more mundane questions, as I am utterly new, and can't figure this stuff out from the Parker site:

What exactly is the difference among the Duofold, Duofold Demi, and Centennial? Is it size, and if so, what are the respective (comparative) sizes?

Also, as I said, a comparison with Pelikans, say like the 400, 600, and 800, would be nice. I would like my pen to be nice and solid, not slim. I have a Sonnet, like it very much, and am up for a larger pen.

Thanks for your kind clarifications!

i actually had a play with a duofold today, and i found it suprisingly small, i always assumed it to be some behemoth of a pen.
but i found it was very light, and rather thin, sorry i cant compare it to a pelikan.
however i found it very similar to a parker 21 in its size and weight. if its any help.

*edit* while im not sure about the centennial, i assume the demi is just a shorter pen, making it appear 'chubby'.

sorry if this post isnt particularly helpful.

this will probably confuse you more, but there are--first of all--many kinds of duofold (vintage and new, american and english, even danish; etc.). the new duofolds (modern takes on the old flattop design) come in centennial, international, and demi sizes.

the centennial is pretty large and impressive on its own, but even so is shorter than the montblanc 149 or the pelikan M1000. the international is thinner and slightly smaller than the centennial. i don't have a demi, so i can just assume it is yet a smaller version.

(at this point, the great david i can probably show you a few pictures wink.gif )

Pictures are always most wonderful to stare at -- you will not find me lacking in my thanks!

Interesting, so I'm getting that International is thinner, standard length, Centennial is relatively large and thick, and the demi is short and stubby?

Goodness! I really think the pictures will clarify a ton for me. I mean, shorter than the M1000 isn't a problem for me, the M1000 is quite a monster in my eyes! I don't own one, but definitely wish to in the future.
