Hello, all! I met someone selling a Parker 45 on craigslist and we are now in the process of determining a fair price for it. Here's all I know from the listing and our back-and-forth emailing...

It's a silver flighter. Chrome trim. Steel nib. No nib code (as far as I know, but when I asked him to check the feed for a code, he said the "nib is blank" so... let's just assume the worst case scenario, it's a plain old round medium). Has been inked and used but cleaned after last use and has been sitting pretty and unused for a while. No scratches at all. Comes with converter. Picture:

I really don't know how to appraise pens and I offered $20 Canadian (which nowadays is pretty much $20 American) and he says he wants more. I'm not looking to rip anyone off, I just want to pay a price that is fair for both him and me.

Steering a bit away from the topic, how much would nibs cost me? I'm looking towards a medium italic but any italic or stub would do. This will help me determine what I'd have to pay on top of the pen to get exactly what I want.

Anyways, thanks for reading! I'll appreciate any help you can give me.

I've just paid £7.19 (approx $13-$14) on E-Bay for a 'Nothing special' P45 flighter. I'd suggest $20 is as high as is reasonable for a used one.

Regards

Richard.

I, too, bought a stainless steel flighter last week with gold trim, medium nib in brand new unused condition with original box and a converter in "rip-off" Britain and paid £10.95 - about 22USD.

I paid $14 + 4 shipping for a NOS (black button on cap) SS.

You can buy a new Hero 800, Med nib from isellpens.com for $23. You can swap nibs with other 45s, even the cap if you want. The Hero is a very nice pen.

Stand firm.

I wouldn't pay any more than the $20 offered. If you want a special 45 nib, stub or oblique you can expect to pay around $40 for a new old stock in 10,12 or 14ct gold. I'm selling a load of vintage 45's this week on ebay no room for them anymore thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Parker 45s don't tend to go for a lot of money, but as long as the nib condition is good, I believe they are very good writers and one of the best buys for the bucks available. Good luck!
