Full Version: Some more Indian Ebonites

These Ebonite pens are manufactured in a small village called Thiruvallur near Madras, India. I found these pens in a small shop in Madras and he told me that now only two families in that vilage are engaged in this business due to falling demand for fountain pens.

The nibs in these pens get attracted by a magnet and hence are not SS. The workmanship in these pens is unbelievable at the selling price of this pen which is around one USD...

Regards,
Hari

Hari, these Indian pens you're documenting are completely fascinating! It's wonderful how so many goods in Indian were locally made - and sad to think that they may be disappearing.

Thanks! More, please!

Thanks for all your comments, I believe these steel nibs are also handmade in TamilNadu, India. Have a look at these links:

Hari, have you tried the pens? How do the nibs feel?

No, I have not filled or dipped them yet. I have only tried them out dry on paper(at the shop) while selecting the pens and the nibs look to be reasonably smooth.
