Full Version: Noodler's Dragon's Napalm - something sparkly?

I just brought out a bottle of Noodler's Napalm that has been sitting neglected for the past month or two, and as I shook it up, I noticed something shimmery and sparkly. At first I thought it was just the light reflecting off of the bubbles from shaking up the ink, but when I opened the cap, I definitely saw what looked like little metallic flecks swirling around in there, and collecting on the bottom.

I'm a bit scared to use this now, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this??

I'll try to take a picture tomorrow in the daylight...
Deirdre
I just noticed it in the bottom of my own bottle yesterday, but I didn't open the bottle to check it out.
penguinmaster
It's in the bottom of mine as well. If it makes you feel more at ease I still filled up a pen and it's been writing fine.

Wow. I have a bottle - I'll have to check it out.

Haven't noticed anything unusual in mine, but I may have to squint at it suspiciously when I get home, now.

Edit: Yep, same thing in mine.
foxtail1
I noticed that about mine when I first opened the box, earlier this year. I've used it in several pens without any problems.
Siv
I have it too. Hasn't impacted on the pen I have it in though... Has anyone noticed their writing sparkle?
goldkiwi
Hmm, thanks guys... While it's reassurring to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this, it's still somewhat unsettling (what IS that stuff, anyway?) and I have to wonder if it'll lead to clogs.

For those of you who continue to use it, do you wait for the sparkles to settle to the bottom, or do you shake it up before filling?

It's actually kind of pretty... like a bottle of glitter paint.

It's magic dragon dust.

My guess is that what appear to be particles are excess dye molecules clumping together. Nathan doesn't seem to stint on ingredients.

If ever somebody has the details, please post! this is really interesting! Almost looks like the gel pens my girlfriend has!

Garageboy
Umh yeah, PLEASE let us know what that is
alexanderino
I've examined 5 bottles. All of them exhibit it. The magic glittery bits are most prominent where the ink pools on paper, but that bottle appears to have more than its fair share!

Should be an interesting experience, goldkiwi smile.gif

That's really interesting, it does look like a sparkling gel ink. Has anyone noticed its effect on writing?

I agree, I would like to know what it looks like on paper. Can someone describe it/post a scan?
Deirdre

I don't have a scan, but I do use Dragon's Napalm in both a Preppy FP and a Preppy Highlighter. On paper it looks like Mercurachrome (sp?) antiseptic as I remember it on my skin, no sparklies.

The antiseptic could have used a few sparklies.

Aww man! It would be such a cool ink if it was sparkly on paper.
GirchyGirchy
Strange. I didn't notice it in my bottle, I'll have to look again. Hopefully it's not clogging things up...

It does sparkle on paper, but it's most conspicuous where the ink has pooled. Let me see if I can put up some pics up tomorrow.

Wow, that looks cool. It looks like the sparklies don't come through when writing though. By the way, I like your handwriting! What pen did you use?

That's true. I have yet to take a microscope to it, however wink.gif

Grazie. This was written with my red Lamy Safari sporting a 1.1 mm italic nib. The width is just right for decently paced everyday writing while its line variation adds flavour.
