Samovar
Dear fellow pen collector,
I'm moving to Japan at the end of July. I'm done teaching high school in Montreal and I will face a new challenge in Japan, teaching English.

I have a bunch of Pilot 78 g with medium nib for sale.

They all have the original sticker, I have them in teal, black and red.

The unique thing about those 78g is that they take an international cartridge and converter, not the Pilot cartridges. I found that Waterman converter are a perfect match.

I will ship the pen from Montreal, Canada

Each pen is 9$, yes 9$! And shipping will be only 5$ up to 3 pens for Canada and US, add 2$ for the rest of the world.

The sale will last until July 22.

Please PM me if you are interested. Payment by Paypal please.

Cheers

Samovar

Sorry I don't need the pens, but wanted to wish you a good luck! It's not real close but you can take JR to City of Hiroshima, where there is Kinokuniya, Tokyu-Hands and other good stores. I lived in Hiroshima for four years and lived in Fukuyama for a little bit to do my student teaching smile.gif Enjoy!!
Samovar
Thank you Taki. I only heard good thing about Hiroshima and Fukuyama. I'll probably drive to Fukuyama every weekend. I can't wait to eat okonomiyaki!
Are those two store the best pen shop in Hiroshima?

I heard Fukuya Department store in Hiroshima City also has good selection of pens, but I've never looked at pens there. Kinokuniya has all the basic line-ups of Pilots and Sailors, though the clerk was not too helpful when I visited there this spring. Tokyu Hands might not have as many variety of Japanese pens but they have some foreign pens, too. Also they have Sailor inks in their SE colors. I wonder if you can find small old stationery stores in Fukuyama or where you wil be living. When I was a kid, there used to be a small stationery store or two very close to every school, but that kind of stores are becoming obsolete sad.gif

I don't know if they let you look at the factory, but Kure City in Hiroshima is where Sailor started and many of their pens are still produced there, I think.

Also you might want to visit Okayama - it might be closer than Hiroshima City to you.
Samovar
I will certainly try to visit the Kure City factory, I'll use all my gaijin charms!
I found this article:
http://make.pingmag.jp/2008/01/15/sailor/

Thanks Taki, I have to spend a few day in August for the Hiroshima prefecture orientation, I'll be sure to stop by those shops.

I'm afraid not, but if you are in the middle of nowhere, I can get you a converter for your pen and charge you only the price I pay for it (8$ CAD plus tax from www.stylo.ca).

I know the blog is probably semi-joke, but find the writer's analysis rather shallow and condescending. Actually it's not super power, but people tolerate rudeness of some gaijins as they think those gaijin cannot learn. It seems that by being proud of using those Gaijin 'superpowers' they are probably making themselves even more isolated. Probably they are not looking into living in Japan long term, though. My husband, who is also a gaijin, had attitude like that when we lived in Japan. After married to me more than a decade, I think he understands that conformity is important, though he does not always practice biggrin.gif

(Samovar, sorry to hijack your sales thread!!)
Samovar
No problem Taki, I agree with you. We have been talking about it between the Montreal JET, I rather put my gaijin power to good uses. There is so many cool things I want to learn: cooking, book binding, paper making, kendo, knife sharpening, etc.

But we do want to bring a Canadian delegation to the Naked Men Festival and it will be a big delegation since most of us were football players or hockey players.

Wow, these pens write like a dream!

I managed to find a lone international cart in my desk drawer, but I'd rather use a converter. I've got 2 international converters, one from a Visconti and the other... I'm not sure where it came from... but neither of them seem to fit. One I can't get on at all, and the other only slides on a tiny bit, and I don't want to use any more force.

So my question is, does a Pilot converter fit or should I just go to the store and try some other international ones? It's my first Pilot so I don't know their converters at all.

Thanks,

Neill
Neill78
After I posted this I noticed the note about Waterman converters. Unfortunately my local B&M shop doesn't have any right now crybaby.gif .

Neill
Samovar
Hi Neal,
I've tried them all, trust me. The only converter that will fit is the Waterman. This converter is on the finer side and it's a perfect fit.
I tried Rotring, Pelikan and a bunch of other, only Waterman will do.

I'm happy you like the pen!

Samovar

The sale will really end on the 22 since I will be super busy. I have to attend a bunch of official diplomatic event since I'm now an employee of the Japanese government. The Consul is hosting a garden party at the Japanese house of the Botanical Garden, sweet!

I need to keep my pen budget on a tight leash, but I'll be more than happy to give FPN a good deal on hard to find pen.

I really want a Nakaya, I always said I would wait to go pick one up in Tokyo, now it's just a question of choosing the color.

So many nice pen cloud9.gif

JET is a good way to see Japan. They take good care of you. Try to pick up some Japanese (the language, I mean) and stay away from the baka gaijin! Contrary to what you might hear on the street, not ALL of them are baka. But I can see why some people think so.

Received my pens yesterday. Popped a Waterman cart into one, but have only scribbled some wiggly lines thus far. Appears it will be a smooth writer. Pens look nice, seem to weigh almost nothing.

Thanks, Samovar! And (again) best wishes.
