So I'm new to all this pen collecting business but have (at the moment) a focused effort on acquiring Pilot Vanishing Point pens. Now I hate gold so I'm only interested in the ones with Rhodium trim. Of course, the readily available ones are easy to get hold of but there are a few which are not so readily available:
  • Mustard Yellow – buying from Japan sorted that one $80
  • LE 2007 Orange – some shops have several of these in stock $150-$200 to $500
  • LE 2005 Ice Blue – some shops have several of these in stock $175-$200 to $500
  • LE Mandarin Yellow – almost impossible to find and at very high prices around $450-$550
  • Red Carbonesque – don't see many, the only one I have seen is at $300
  • Green Carbonesque – don't see many, haven't seen any for sale recently
  • LE 2008 ????! – one well known retailer is already sold out on pre-orders!
It seems to me that some speculative retailers have not sold these items and have kept them to sell on later through ebay or equivalent at a higher price once they become 'scarce'. I guess this is not new nor should it be surprising but that doesn't stop it from being annoying.

By the way, if anyone knows of a place to get any of the above pens for a decent price then please let me know!!!

Hmm. Maybe I want my pen back. smile.gif

The green carbonesque has been for sale on Ebay recently for 90 pounds.

Maybe I should be more patient... I over-excitedly bid on a number of these and won a couple. So now I have 2 and I think my wife will really kill me if I buy a third!

Well... I already got a coupla little nibbles. If those fall through, then I'll list it in the marketplace. I'd been thinking about it for at least a month, and your post is what got me to take action. Sortv.

Anyway, we don't want to upset your wife!

Mora Stylos seems to have a second hand green carbonesque. Anyway, that's what's on his website. But the price is quite high for the VP in France... it sells at 178 euros...

MYU
I remember when the Mandarin VP was for sale, with the cheapest price about 70% over the going rate for a standard VP. It's a nice color, but not THAT nice IMHO. I'm shocked to see it fetching over $400 now. blink.gif Was the production run really that small?

By the way, I think that the green carbonesque models were never sold in the USA. All of the places where I saw VP's for sale sported only the black and blue carbonesque versions, plus some other solid colors. Carmen Rivera's definitive VP website states the green carbonesque was Japan market only, with the red carbonesque released for the USA limited to 1500 units.

Red and Green Kasuri (same thing as red and green carbonesque) should be available from Ujuku's Pen Store for under $200.

Edit: Correction, they used to have. Only have blue and black now. Sorry.

What I find amazing is that the Orange LE is selling for more than the Blue Ice when there were more Orange ones made! Maybe it's because the Orange has the numbers on it?

Also amazing is that the Mandarin Yellow is now selling for $450+ (there were 1500 released in the US) wherease the Red Sesenta is selling for $400 and there were only 100 of those made...
GeeTee
I don't think it is just the number that were made. Bright colours are more popular it seems. The Ice blue looks rather dull imho so i think there will be less demand for it.

I have a Green Carbonesque I was thinking of putting up in the Marketplace. Now I know it's rare I'll have to ask more for it. cool.gif

I've just seen 3 Orange LEs sold on Martini auctions - one for $115, one for $215 and one for $225 AND there is another one listed for bidding (starting at $215). This means Regina had at least 4...

Actually I could have worked that out by reading this thread.

AND she has 5 LE Ice Blues available as of today on ebay.

I so want the red Sesenta. The red Kasuri isn't big on my list for some reason, though, and I had the opportunity to buy it from Ujuku, but didn't. I'm not even upset by not getting it when it was available before the dollar dropped on the market.

I'm so not a yellow fan. The Mandarin Yellow isn't one I'm going to chase after. I did pick up the current deep yellow available everywhere, only because I need a VP to hold brown ink and I just couldn't bring myself to put brown in a green VP. The deep yellow (mustard?) is inexpensive enough for a VP that I decided I could handle that yellow just for the brown ink I use at work. The Sesenta brown is something I'd like to replace it with, though.

The 2008 LE purple with rhodium - ok, this was the first must-have LE on my list, and I've pre-ordered. I may be paying too much, but this one was my gotta have now pen. Of course, I didn't even know about the VP 8 months ago...

Better explained here.

A LE version of the decimo.

Robert
I have a red carbonesque (Kasuri) that I'd be willing to sell. Please send a PM if you're interested.
