Full Version: Sheaffer Calligraphy Nib Question?

I recently purchased a set of Sheaffer calligraphy pens and was wondering about the line variation of one in particular. It is a .60mm according to the packaging and I notice almost no variation from vertical to horizontal. Is it that the nib is designed that way, or do I just have the one that is a bit out of whack?
I don't have much experience with calligraphy nibs, but I was expecting at least a bit of variation. The others in the set are 1.0mm and 1.4mm and the difference with those two is quite dramatic.
Also, the .6 seems coffin nail stiff and the other two have a fair amount of flex.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Someone here may correct me/know more, but I believe a .6mm is a basic cursive italic nib width. There isn't much variation vertical/horizontal, and the pen is held at very specific angle to make this font.

That sounds out of whack to me. I have a couple of Sheaffer calligraphy pens, and even the F nib ones have noticeable line variation. That's odd you're not seeing any. Maybe they accidentally packaged up a round nib in your set?

I just spoke with a friend who works at the local pen boutique who tells me that the nib is, in fact, defective. He says that it should have a considerable amount more flex and that it is indeed a rounded nib. Thank you for the information.
