I finally have gotten some good use of my new Sailor 1911. The nib is probably the smoothest I have out of the box. I love the design of the pen. Its simple and looks beautiful (I have it in burgundy). I will surely buy more Sailor pens. I think I may invest in a Sapporo in the near future.

Congrats! What size nib? The burgundy is a lovely color bunny01.gif

Its a medium nib. I love the burgundy color too!

Just got a yellow 1911 with a M nib to go with my Sapporo F nib. Both are just excellent writers.

I have the yellow in the full-sized 1911 - medium nib (which writes MF and suits me just fine too.) An excellent pen right out of the box, and I love the banana yellow with the black bullets at each end. It is already one of my favourites!

I'm waiting for my first Sailor 1911, also in yellow.
I'll let you know when it arrives!

I recently purchased a black 1911 F with gold trim via pengallery. Very quick service and online tracking of the package. The pen write very nice and I really love it though there is some slight tine misallignment. I tried to carefully bend it out, but it's still there. Not sure what I'll do with it. Shipping of the pen again is not my idea. Overhere there are no Nib Meissters...at least not that I'm aware of.

My pen arrived today and it's fab, although the nib is somewhat toothier than I expected, as well as being broader. I ordered a medium, expecting it to be fairly similar to a European fine, but it's actually more like a European medium, IMO.

I have written all day with it and I am loving it, despite it not being how I expected it to be, but that's the joy of FPs as they all have their own personalities!

Considering the next purchase now (think that it might be the burgundy!!)

Seriously considering my first 1911 purchase. Can someone recommend some good vendors? I don't have a lot of money, and would even consider used, as long as it was in good shape.

Thanks,
Michael

Swisher pens has them at decent prices. I'm probably going to make my next purchase there.

Pam at Oscar Braun Pens. I just got a Rh demo 1911 (large) for lower than I've seen anywhere on the internet. Actually, aside from one-off sales or lucky shots on eBay Pam consistantly has the best prices for all the pens I have bought from her (Pilots, Sailors and Pelikans).

No affiliations etc, just a happy customer.

Another vote for Pam at Oscar Braun. My two modern Sailors came from her... her service and prices are hard to beat.

I got mine from ebay - japanese seller
way less than half price including the shipping!

The only problem is Pam doesn't have that many 1911s. She has the Black and Rhodium version, and then some with the Naginata Togi M nib. So your choices with her are limited (at least according to her website).

So have I but if you want something slightly unusual (e.g. a 1911 clear with Rh trim) you either have to wait on eBay for ages (to get it at a bargain price) or go to Pam! Also, you'll be bidding against me for bargain priced Sailors!!!!!

I think Pam has considerably more than what you see on her website. Just drop her an email. The only time I've asked for something and it not been available are for LEs and a Green/Rh VP (which she could order in anyway).

Within the US, Pam Braun.

Within Asia, Oceania, Australasia - Ujuku, Pengallery, Melpens.

Ujuku has a model, the Profit Standard 1911, that is the same dimensions as the Mid-size 1911, but has a 21k nib instead of the standard 14k nib.

eBay vendor engeika has Sailor pens available, and you can often win them for about 75% of the normal price.

Congrats on the Sailor 1911, Leonie. smile.gif I tested out a few Sailors recently and found the 1911 to be a beautiful design (I prefer it over the Professional Gear). Sorry to hear the medium is a little wider than your expectations. However, you could have it tuned a bit for thinner writing. Are you going to the London Writing Equipment Show in October? If so, I'm sure you could get it taken care of there.

Regards,
~Gary

Now my Sailor 1911 is on sale in the Marketplace. The nib is too fine for me. I plan to buy another 1911 eventually. Great experience. I hope this pen finds a good home.

Mine arrived a couple of days ago. It is this one --

I got on eBay from engeika.

I had tried a couple, and decided to go for the medium nib (= everybody else's fine). Also I went for a mid-size to begin with as I didn't want to blow some $200 for a full size, either 1911 or Pro Gear, until I was sure.

I was surprised at the lightness of the pen and the touch of toothiness in this nib, but it reminded me of a good sports car suspension, where you can feel the road, but have full control. My Jinhao Commemoratives, OTOH, are so heavy and smooth that they remind me of full-sized saloon cars, where the mass of the car body and the soft suspension are used to hide the feeling of the road.

I like my sports car nib... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Thats a beauty. I've never seen it with the demonstrator body and the black cap. Its a great combination.

Michael,

In the U.S., Oscar Braun and Swisher are terrific vendors. I've bought pens from both and was very pleased. I recommend The Pear Tree Pen Company as well. I don't know James but, along with other pens and inks over time, I bought a 1911 with a MF nib from him. Great experiences each time.

To me, price is important, but it's equally important to know the dealer's reputation for service. You can buy with confidence from any of these dealers.

HTH,

Jersey Diabolo
