New to my collection: Waterman Expert II - M nib - matte black.

A very smooth writer with the medium nib. The cap posts with a very solid, satisfying click. The pen has a lot of heft to it, which is what I was looking for. Overall, a happy purchase.
Cheers,
A.J.

Am glad you are having such good luck with that pen
Mine was scratchy and skipped a lot. I lost my patience with it after a while and ran to the lake in my backyard and tossed it in. Now its resting with 15 feet or so of water above it.

That was my first and last modern Waterman. On the other hand, I love vintage Watermans

I love modern watermans. They're reasonably priced and smooth as butter. Maybe I am just lucky, but all my modern watermans write so smooth. Congratulations on your new pen!

I consider the Expert II one of the great underrated pens in current production. I have two, and I find them to be excellent pens for the money. They have a very comfortable size, weight and balance. The nibs are a bit small for the size of the pen, but they are adequate in size, smooth and reliable. Overall, I give this model a good A-.

+1 on that. If I could own only one fountain pen, I'd be perfectly happy with one of these.
Most Watermans I've bought have needed a little DIY tine meddling, same as almost every fountain pen I've ever bought, but that's nothing major if you've already had practice. You can get Experts to flow like a fire hose if you want to -- the feed flow will support that. And all my Experts have required an initial wetting routine to get them to flow right, but again that's no big deal (overnight soak in soapy water, no rinse, problem fixed). It helps to start out with a very free-flowing ink even if that's not what you plan to use long term.

Don't give up one modern Waterman yet

. Try Waterman Carene.

My first modern pen buy was a Expert II off of ebay. It's a slow starter but once its going it is a great writer. I love the heft to it. It is a great signature pen. Enjoy yours.

Congrats! I've got an Expert II (in a copper finish)with a fine nib. It's one of my favorite pens. Writes well and can sit unused for a few days and still start right up. I've never seen the black finish before, that's very nice. I wouldn't mind having one of those.
