Hi folks,
I just bought a wonderful pen. It is in perfect working order, and is a lever fill. The lever rattles slightly when the sac is full. I don't believe it's even making contact with the sac. If I operate the lever to fill it, it makes contact and continues to fill. My questions are:
1. Is this behavior normal?
2. Is there something I can to to keep the lever flush with the pen body?
Thank you for your time,
Daosus

It's an Esterbrook, I believe a "Dollar Pen" The imprint on the side says "R. Esterbrook H [worn off] Made in USA"

There are a number of things that can cause this. You might have a piece of old sac stuck between the pressure bar and the barrel, holding the J bar away from the barrel and therefore the lever. The J bar might need to be repositioned so that it's tight against the barrel and lever. Or you could have an after market J bar that needs to be modified. Some of the new ones have rather deep sides on the channel of the J bar. The sides of the J bar hit the barrel, but leave a gap in the middle that's deep enough that the lever is not pressed closed by the J bar. If that's the case you need to grind the sides of the J bar down so that it's nearly flush with the spring.

Wow, thank you for the detailed response. I guess I'll open her up at some point to see what's causing it.
