I have been thinking of my next purchase after the M1000 arrives. Thought it would be today, DHL lied, now they are saying Monday crybaby.gif

Anyways, I want a Toledo. Which one though? Can anyne offer recomendations?

I know there is the M700, M900 and M910

I have a concern too, how thick is the gold plating on the sleves? Has anyone's gold plating in your Toledo started to wear off and does it still look atractive with the silver exposed below?

Can you compare the weight/size of the various Toledo pens to different models in the Souveran line?

Well I don't have the dough but I got the measurements etc... (you do know why of course)

The 900 (or 910 too) is one heavy pen because the insides are all made of solid brass and weighs in at exactly 40 g. Length = 142 mm. Now that's the size (but not the weight) of an M800.
The 700 and 710 are more "normal" piston fillers and weigh only 23 g. Their lengths are 125 mm which makes them more the size of an M400.
Don't forget to take a look at a Toledo 1931, yup, you guessed it, a LE in 1931 samples only.

Have fun. I'd get all three. Check out the weight and or balance of the 900 in your own hand. I've heard people complain about that weight after a while writing with it.

I have the 700 and 910. It depends on how comfortable you are with the width of the pen. My personal preference is for 910. My understanding is that all Toledos have a life time guarantee. In my case, I've had discolourations of the pen caps and Pelikan replaced them with no questions asked. I've had my 700 since 1990. It's been used for my professional exams including my final qualifying paper lasting 6 hours. It did NOT run of ink thumbup.gif My hands were tired and I really did see people around me shaking their hands periodically presumably because of fatique. They were using Biros! Any the point is my 700 has seen much use and there has been no noticable wear on the barrel. Mind you ... I have sweaty palms and presumably that's more corrosive than dry hands.

In terms of size. The 700 is similar to the M400. The 910 similar to the M800

Just my 2 cents.

Just for the heck of it

That's what your new 1931 will look like
Dr Ozzie
Paladin, are you saying that if i want to write with mine a lot then it would have to be an M700 due to the weight of the M900?

Which of those two pens would you say capture the spirit of the vintage Toledos better?

That is a beauty. Haven't seen this one before.... Only the red 910.
Thanks for posting thumbup.gif

Herr Doktor, I'm lapis, not Paladin, maybe I can't answer you question exactly the way you want, but here are a few more hints...
The 900 came out in November 1992, the 910 in March 1993, the 910 Export (i.e. in red) in June 2007, the 700 in March 1985 and the 710 in November 1993. The 1931 was a 1997 remake of the "Original Toledo" (which came out in 1931).
Suggested retail prices here in Euros: 700/710 = 730, 900/910 = 1200, 1931 = 2000.

Now you got even more to think about, 'eh?

Best wishes
Mike
