Hello,

I need some help deciding between two pens: (1) the Carene Fountain Pen in Black with Silver Trim or (2) the Carene Deluxe Fountain Pen in Black and Blue with Silver and Gold trim. I'm torn between both!

Also, which nib do most go with on these pens? I have a Phileas in F which is nice, but a bit scratchy...

As always,

Thank you!

?

The Carene Deluxe in black AND blue, as in two-toned?

Anyway, I would say that whichever one you get now, you can always get the other one later. Just don't buy a stub, cuz Ghost Plane yikes.gif will snatch your pen in the middle of the night!

24 hours are enough to read all Carčne threads on FPN. roflmho.gif

I can't help you here as I have both the solid black AND the black and silver. They both look classy. All the rest of mine are single colors, so you'll know where my bias lies.

Yes, the Carene Deluxe body is black up by the point of the pen and the rest of the body (about 75% is blue), so it's two tone. The cap is also two tone: it is mostly silver with gold appointments... This is what I would consider a dress up pen. On the other hand the Black with Silver trim trim is more understated... I can only have one of each pen. So this will have to be the only Waterman Carene I purchase... I didn't really see much in the FPN posts regarding pros and cons of either pen...

Thanks again!

OK, buy the fancy one. It is SO fun to pull a classic pen out of your jeans pocket (or business suit)!
OK buy the black one.

Yes, I know the Carenes, just never heard the Deluxe described as two-toned (not a slam, just an observation). OK, get the Deluxe.

Later, get the plain blue from Pam at www.oscarbraunpens.com. puddle.gif No wait, get the plain blue now, since the price is so great. headsmack.gif

Let's go to Starbucks and make a list of pens we want. thumbup.gif

I have the solid black with the gold trim, myself.

Personally I think the Deluxe Blue looks classier,
if classier is what you are after.

Pens we want?

It's nibs I am after!

Still haven't tried a stub but I am really loving the
CI Phileas I got from Tony the Tiger.

Too bad I can't have one my Carenes ground to a CI;
I would in a heart beat.

I'm not a big fan of the Deluxe Carenes the metal caps take away from the sleek look to me. So my vote would have to be the Black of the two. However given a choice of any the Amber Shimmer is my favorite!

I'd have to go with the Sea Green if you're talking shimmer.
Get the plain black. It's so understated...

I have an amber shimmer and green shimmer and black GT and an amethyst bronze SE. The one I like the best is usually whichever one that I'm using at that specific moment.

I have the Deluxe Blue and it is a real beauty.

I have the deluxe blue and I love it, however I will say that the silver cap is a bit of a fingerprint magnet.

My next pen will be black and understated.
