Well,

I had a BIG birthday at the beginning of the year. I looked at a lot of pens. Was willing to spend some serious cash. I fell in LOVE with a Kuro-Tamenuri Picolo Writer (clip) model. It arrived. I tortured poor John Mottishaw through a debacle with Noodlers Baystate Blue that clogged the feed something awful, four or five iterations of cursive italic nib. And finally... Perfection! For a week...

My ex-wife came by to have dinner with our daughter and saw a water-filled martini glass -- and did not notice the nib assembly soaking in it -- Garbage disposal one, nib assembly zero.

I called John Mottishaw who struggled not to laugh at my pain. In a bleak, painful way, I guess it was sort of funny. Sort of. John ordered me a new pen, but then I happened onto the Nakaya web site, saw the special orders, and got it in to my head that I wanted an Aka-tame Sukashi like their owl depiction, but with elephants.

John and I swapped images. I sent him one I liked, along with an essay about what it meant to me. He forwarded it to the folks at Nakaya. God only knows what my Englsih looks like when translated into Japanese, but they seemed confident they could accomplish what I wanted.

So?

So, now, I gather in two months (give or take) I will have my pen.

I will post photos. I will NOT let the ex-wife touch it.

Looking forward to having my pen.

Oh, yeah... "Baroo!" That's my approximation of the sound elephants make when they trumpet. ;-)
