Full Version: What Sheaffer do I have here?

Good morning!

All those Sentinels, Admirals, etc. with the intimidating names get a bit lost on me, so I'll describe what I have here.

It's the standard size of all those pens. Cap and barrel both black plastic. Lever filler. Conical nib. Approximately 1/4" cap ring that tapers slightly (like the Imperial). No imprint on the clip. White dot. Standard barrel imprint (with 1000) underneath.

Ideas?

-Thanks
Martius
My vote goes to a black full-sized 1942-49 Balance with a Triumph nib. I believe these may have been called Valiants even at that time, but I'll withhold absolute judgment for someone who knows the terminology like Daniel K.

Awaiting your picture. smile.gif

If it has a Triumph (conical nib) then it is not a balance. I believe Sheaffer called them simply Triumph, though I am not entirely sure of that. As for the particular model name, wait for Daniel. . .

That's the one! I was especially pleased with the lever filler. Transitional?

We need to clarify some things before a proper ID can be made. The pen in that picture is labeled a "1000", but, of course, "1000" isn't a model symbol for a Sheaffer pen of the period, it's a price. Furthermore, the pen shown appears to be a Valiant, which was priced at $12.50, and so if it bore a price stamp, it would be "1250". You describe your pen as having a "1000" price stamp and a 1/4" band, which doesn't match the pen shown in either respect, though it matches the description of a circa 1947 Statesman. It would help to have pictures and a description of the nib imprint.

Here we go!

Appears to be an early-1947 Statesman. Could be a bit earlier.
