Having received my new cap, (thanks T), I am trying to get the rest of the bits from the old, dented, one. I cannot seem to get the finger assembly to move, which I presume I have to in order to allow the inner section to come out. Please could I ask for some professional assistance?

You need to pull the clutch to get the inner cap out, and will need a clutch puller to get it out. The reason is that edge of the cap is rolled over ever so slightly. Unrolling it is nearly impossible on a lustraloy cap, and difficult at best on a gold filled cap. The set costs a good chunk of change - not worth the cost if you aren't going to be doing repairs, but well worth the money for someone who is serious about repairs and expects to do a fair number of 51 caps.

Ron, Thanks for that. If I can get the fingers out by cutting, (not quite sure how as yet), will I be able to retrieve the "inner sleve" without purchasing tools? I do have a small lathe, so if there was a pattern image available.......

The inner cap is held in by the clip screw. To remove the inner cap after the clutch is out you first remove the jewel and then the clip screw. The inner cap will fall out. Which parts from your old cap do you need and how badly dented is it? You might try sacrificing the shell and saving the clutch. Oh did I say that, save the whole thing, don't cut it apart.

I've made me a rather simple clutch extractor, equipped with a spring loaded plunger, which engages in one of the 5 slots in the cap clutch.
I've used this tool succesfully ten to fifthteen times.
As Ron stated,the clutch is more difficult to extract on the lustraloy caps , on some of these the clutch was axially slightly deformed, although still fully functional. On all GFcaps the clutch came out without any deformation.
A pitty the original Parker clutch has only 5 slots, with 6 slots I could easily install 2 plungers @180°, which would avoid any deformation risks.
Since you have a lathe, you could easily make such a tool yourself;
Unfortunately- being rather clumpsy with computers- I don't succeed to attach the sketch of my tool.
I'll send it to you if you send me a direct e-mail , and maybe you can put it on the board.
