Full Version: £11GBP ($22USD) for a new old stock Parker 45. A good deal?

I have found an auction for a royal blue Parker 45 with stainless steel cap and gold trim for £11GBP ($22USD) including P&P.

It is new old stock and was wondering what fellow FPNers think about this deal.

I would just go a head with it but in the last 4 days I have purchased 3 pens! An Al-Star (new) and a Parker 17 and Wing Sung 730 (online auction) and am thinking I should think carefully before buying another pen! If I don't my bank balance shall be very sad indeed!

I have well and truly caught the fountain pen bug!

I have been reading http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=64137 and it sounds like I have found a good deal. I shall think about it a bit more but I think I shall buy one!

$22 for NOS with a converter included is a decent price. I have paid between $10 and $24 for my 45s. $20+ is very reasonable for one in excellent or new condition.

I have bought and paid for it. I am now waiting for three pens to arrive!

In the last week I too bought a brand new 45 (stainless steel with gold trim) for £10.95 off ebay. At first it was an awful writer - very scratchy, poor flow and it skipped. Three sides of A4 writing to break it in and it is now writing perfectly - nice and wet with a good thick line (which I like). It starts well and doesn't skip any more either. A cracking buy for the money. I hope yours is as good when you get it.

Cheers,

New Parker 45 Black/silver FP & BP sets are currently available at Argos for £19.99 ( http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/part...htext%3EPEN.htm ). Argos' price is usually as good as you'll get on the highstreet, so £11 for the FP isn't a bad price.

I've got a second hand Flighter coming which I plan on giving to my Eldest daughter, that was £7.19 inc postage on E-Bay. I've yet to see its condition so I don't know if it was a really good deal or just OK.

Regards

Richard.

Hi,

Like the others have said, sounds like a good price, the 45 is a good workhorse, but I never seem to use mine that often anymore, maybe time to dig them out and ink them up again.

I am really quite excited about it arriving now! I am eager to try out a new pen.

Brand new Parker 45's are still available from Parker dealers and showrooms here, with the lifetime warranty,
For around $30. They are all UK made, with stainless steel nibs. So $22 seems a good deal. It is really a workhorse,
which should serve you a long time.

I seem to have got a nearly new one for that price. I'm really rather pleased.

My 45 arrived yesterday! It's a GT in Midnight Blue. I love it! On my Rhodia pad it is a pleasure to write with and I think it looks nice too! My Parker 17 arrived today too! I haven't tried it out yet as it I don't have an bottle of ink to full the bladder with (tomorrow when I also get a converter to for my Al-Star).

Thanks for the advice all!

I'm glad you're happy with it. I hope you like the P17 too. I'm rather fond of mine, and it writes really rather well now.
