Full Version: Nice Eversharps?

Two more recently unearthed from my dusty boxes....no imprints on the barrels but the nibs both read Eversharp. The green pen is a lever fill and the brown has a screw base [stuck]. Are these rogue pens with Eversharp nibs or real Eversharps? Thanks! Click to view attachment

Both look very nice I think my favourite would be the green because of the section taper & size .. but what's happening on that nib????

It looks like one of the Wahl adjustable nibs that is missing the metal adjustment piece on top. There is a thread around here about how to replace those.

I will let the more Wahl-knowledgable give you a better answer, but methinks those are a couple of deco-band Dorics. They sure look like the real thing.

Nice Dorics to be sure. And the one on the left lost the slider on top. Excellent article on Dorics at Richard Binder's site. Very collectible pens, nice nibs, but the plastic is a bit brittle, so be careful posting (or don't post, as the case may be.)

The top slide unit is moved forward to make the nib more rigid, and back to make it more flexible. Looks like the following:

Thanks for the great info....wish I had the slider for the green pen........

The pens are indeed Dorics. They are from about 1936-38. While they are not the top of the line Gold Seal Dorics, they are nice examples of the "popular priced" models that were sometimes advertised to and for students in their day. They sold for $5.00 when new.

The correct slider for the pen missing it is actually a solid silver color cartouce shaped slider as opposed to the opne earlier era slider shown by penburg. The visualated barrel makes the pen in question a late model that would have the late style slider. The best thing to do is replace the nib complete with a good one that includes the slide. (BTW, the slide lets the pen behave as a stiff pen when in the fully forward position and as a flexible when in the fully drawn back position.) The slide has tangs beneath that fit into the slits you see on the nib. The tangs were folded inward under the nib at the factory and secure the slide to the nib. The slits provide a track for the slide to move along and the notches are detentes that allow the slide to stop and stay at whatever of the 9 (as I recall) positions that were available. The problem is that once the tangs get broken off, they can not easily be replaces. That is why it is usually better if not cheaper alone, to replace the nib with slide complete. The good news is that you can still use the pen without the slide even if it looks a bit naked...it will simply behave as a flexible nib.

Anyway these pens are always good lookers, so long as the plastic has not crystallized or become damaged. The lever fill is a straight forward restoration item with a sac and presser bar. The other is, of course a vacuum filler and it requires a little more in the way of parts, experience and skill to get working proplery.

These are nice pens that deserve their day in the shade (not sun) and to be used.
Good Luck

Strange thing... i never actually owned any of these.

Such is the charm of vintage pen photography and of digital montage.

But, i do own a wee piece of each pen photo'd smile.gif

Well, it's nice to meet another Michigan pen person, you're the third I've met here. I guess sometime I'll have to venture over there and see what I can come across.

There used to be an outdoor flea market West of PawPaw, think it was called "Reits"...had hundreds of vendors and was one of those rare truly worthwhile flea markets...on the Red Arrow Fwy between the John Deere dealer at Teapot Dome and PawPaw. Good Luck!
