Hey folks,

Anyone know if they made Milords in the various pre-2005 celluloids like arco gold, royale blue, arco green, cardinal red, and the like? I've never seen or heard of one, but it would be curious that they made the celluloids in the Paragon and the Princess, but not the Milord or the 1930.

Best,
Summer

All of the literature I have, or have seen, indicates no Milord in the Celluloid line-up. The Milord was around in the 50s-80s, and then in the 90s Arte Italiana, but I have never seen it in anything except solid colored resin.

In the Celluloid Collection, the smallest pen with a clip made its appearance as the Dama (Lady). It later became "1930" in the Arte Italiana and the Titanium series.

Yes, and no. There were no Milords made in celluloid; but there were LEs in the milord size made of celluloid.

The Omas Club created a Milord sized pen in the Arlecchino celluloid. Was a killer deal, too, back in the days of the weak Euro. Nowadays cheaper to buy the larger Arlecchino LE...

Could you elaborate on this? What celluloids were used? And did they strictly adhere to the Milord model or did they alter the shape?

The only celluloid Milord series from the recent production but pre-LVMH years is the club pen. You can see it here, in Arlecchino celluloid. You can see that the trim is slightly different- this particular pen has the MOMA style cap bands, the engraved Club Simoni logo just above, and three engraved rings in the section. It's a nice piece, though. Unfortunately to acquire it you have to buy for years of membership to the club, and at today's exchange rates that's nearly $1500. You can get one of the regular Arlecchino LEs and a couple of Milords for that. I'm still kicking myself for not acting when they first introduced the pen and the rates were better, I could have acquired one for closer to $700...

I can't give you specific names, but I've seen some of those arcane milord-size pens.

Omas used the different sizes and shapes to make limited runs of pens (like the Galilei you have). For example, for the MoMA, Omas used the same machinery they used for the old style ogiva.

I know a pen collector and owner of a pen shop in Seville, Spain. He's shown me pictures he took while visiting the Bologna factory. The machinery is jurassic; basically the pen turning machinery works like a key copying device.

Sorry, I can't be more specific. Which size is the Galilei and The Cinema?

They are both Paragon-sized and-shaped. I have yet to see a true old-style Milord in celluloid. As Vicary pointed out, they made the Arlecchino celluloid into a Milord-sized pen. However, the pen might have the size of a Milord, but it looks totally different in my opinion. So I am still curious to see if anyone can produce an image of a real Milord pen made out of celluloid.
