Might anyone be able to state authoritatively how the gold band is affixed to the 51 Flighter cap? Is it a separate band that is attached (how? swaged? differential thermal expansion?), or is it electrochemically plated on to an incised cap section, or what???

It's a separate piece, swaged in place.
