Has anyone used Laurence Oldfield in the UK for repairs? I've emailed him twice recently for repairs without a response, however when I bought his new repair book he replied. Just wondered if perhaps he is a little slow at answering his email.

Hi,

I have used him several times and in my opinion his work is first class and reasonably priced (at least by UK standards), I am about to send him a Parkette Deluxe and CS28 Lever fillers for new ink sacs and thinking about sending a Vac Debutante and a Mentmore Autofill as well (but may leave these for the moment as both have nib issues as well).

He can be a bit slow responding to mail and when I last mailed about 4 weeks ago he mentioned that his turnaround time was now about 3-4 months as he had taken time out to write his book (usually it's about 4 weeks).

Bearing in mind that I can't use the pens, the turnaround time isn't really an issue and I may send them and suggest I pick them up at the London Pen Show in October.

Hi,

I have never used him for repairs, but have purchased a pen from him. No problems at all, my email enquiries were answered promptly and the pen was posted out very quickly.

He is working on a couple of Onotos for me and his emails have been very prompt and extremely courteous. He came very highly recommended. He has been sorting out the book recently which I am sure has taken quite some time and I know there is a long waiting list for his services. Always a good sign!

I have used Laurence of Pen Practice on one occasion about a year ago. All communications were handled
promptly, the pens were returned in less time than I was led to expect, and I could not fault the
workmanship.

Like most restorers/repairers (in the UK at least) I guess he is a one man band operating less
as a business and more as an enthusiast offering a service. And maybe he has other issues/priorities
in his life at the moment - it can happen! The writing, publishing and distribution of that book would
have left me drained for months...

Very good man, in my experience.

I resent the email and Laurence replied. He is happy to have a look at my pens and they are on their way. Many thanks to everyone who replied to this post. thumbup.gif
