Full Version: Is it a Vac?

My grandmother found this pen and gave it to me. I researched a bit and I think it's a Vacumatic (at least looks like one) but the filler is a twist button. Am I doing something wrong or my pen is weird?

I'm new at this fountain pen thing, and I'd really appreciate if someone gave me any thoughts.

Thanks

P.S.: Sorry for the big photos, I can't find my Mac Photoshop Cd.

it looks to me like one of many copies that were made of the vacumatic. i've never seen nor heard of a 4-banded vac cap... but maybe david i has wink.gif the arrow clip isn't quite right, and of course the filler unit is nothing i've seen on a vac. i wonder what the nib (frontal) looks like....

I agree with you, don't think it's a Parker anymore.

Hi,

I agree, sure I have seen one of these somewhere, but can't find it now, but there were various copies made of the Vac over the years. Can't really tell from the photos, but the nib looks very Sheaffer like.

I think Penmanila has it right, but that doesn't mean it can't be reworked and turned into a nice writer.

You could probably make a collecting subset of Vac copy cats.

Not a Vac, though inspired by it smile.gif

In addition to the other clues, the seam in the celluloid pattern on the cap is a givaway that this ain't a vac.

An homage, if you will. smile.gif

There were a bunch of clones that were Italian, weren't there? A handful of Japanese, too?

In this case, the plastic indeed is not Parker.

However, for sake of Vacsoterica, i note that seamed lined Vacs do exist

They appear to be late 1945-early 1946 product. The pic below is the only stacked-coin band pen i've seen with the seam, which argues, though not conclusively, that the stacked coin band- found only in 1942-1943 on Vacufold and Shadowwave pens, did run longer in typical plastic. Look at the cap where the light reflex hits it.

i do have a vac with a seam in the pattern, somewhere.... i thought it was ugly (and i guess it really is), but if it's that rare, i'm going to go look for it and keep it apart from the rest wink.gif
