I was chatting with a friend the other day and he told me that the nib and feed could be safely removed from the collar. Being that I've got but one Visconti nib and I don't want to carelessly ruin it, does anyone else know how to do this and could lend some instructions?

Thanks!

Even though it can be unscrewed, it can be hard to unscrew since there's dried up ink in there. Be very careful because you don't want to break the nib or distort the shape. If you can't do it with your hand, it might be a lot easier to do it with pliers. It sounds scary but it's not.

What I do is - I wrap the nib with very soft wet tissues. A little wet because you dont' want to scratch the gold nib. Then I am extra careful and wrap it with rubber bands (this creates the "adhesive quality" you need). And then take the pliers and very careful unscrew. The pliers create the leverage you need so you don't really use much force.

Again - scary sounding but easy once you get the hang of it.

Well, I've gotten that far, but I was under the impression that the nib and feed could/would actually separate from the plastic screw-in collar itself.

My initial thought was that since the Maxi's nib is a standard Bock #6 and since I've got about 11 other #6 nibs and feeds, that I'd swap in a 14K Conklin (F) stub from Tom Pike and see how I liked it. Guess that won't happen.

Once unscrewed, the nib and feed are friction fit. A gentle tug should do the trick. Warm water if necessary. I've actually got one soaking now.

Yep, that's the one I was hoping for. Thanks for doing the digging!

I must need to soak for a little longer, b/c I can't get mine loose.

I just put the Van Gogh 14K nib back together. Wow - what a difference in flow a good cleaning makes!! Good luck to you!!

Not all the Visconti nibs are unscrewable!

For example, old pens are not - 4-5 years ago - and also the new Ragtime 20th are not.
