Perhaps my google-fu is failing me at getting dimensions on the various models, but I have yet to turn up all the info I'm looking for.

Anyway, here's the jest of it...

For graduation and my birthday my wife bought me a Nelson FP/MP set and I was a little surprised when I got it that the pencil is noticeably longer than the FP is when capped. Granted, it's probably less than a quarter inch, but it surprised me nonetheless. I have been toying with the idea of picking up a pencil to match my Churchill, so does anyone know (and I suppose Mary can tell us if no one else knows) how the rest of the models are for length of the pencils vs FPs?

On another note, since the pencils take a pencil cartridge of sorts, is it possible to get them to accept a BP refill as well? The brass mechanism in the cap seems to be mated to the pencil carts, but it also appears that that mechanism may be able to be swapped out... If it can be swapped out and the bodies are the same, that may be a worthwhile investment so I can choose between pencil and ballpoint should I ever decide I want a fancy ballpoint with me.

On a completely unrelated topic... Conway Stewart's Dartmoor is simply an amazing color.

Greetings Dreg,

Congratulations on graduation and happy birthday. So many good things all at once - and even a nice fountain pen mechanical pencil set too boot!

My experience with Conway Stewart, Parker, Pelikan, and Waterman (modern versions) is that the mechanical pencils and the ball point pens seem to be on the same platform and the same size.

My CS Duro mp is the same size as its counter part ball point. The same goes for the Parker Duofold mp/ball point - they are both the same size.

I know for a fact that one can replace the Pelikan mechanical pencil mechanism with the ball point mechanism - I've done that a few times as needs have demanded. I do not know if that is true for all of the manufacturers, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

BTW, I have a Churchill ball point pen and I love it. Then again, I have a Duro ball point pen and I love it. Oh well.

Peace,

Phroneo
