Do the pens worth the price ?

Why ?

I like the 360. What do you think of it ?

Thanks
Phthalo
Please do a search, or browse the many OMAS 360 posts made in the Italian fountain pen sub-forum: Penne Stilografiche della Bella Italia.

Lots of good information to be had.

OMAS pens are very nice. smile.gif

Nice but expensive. Yes, they are nice... biggrin.gif Probably worth the money.

I have a Milord, a 360 and an Ogiva Guilloche, all old style. I like them all, but I LOVE the Ogiva - beautifully designed, comfortable to use, very smooth nib. There's a guy in Rome who sells them on eBay. The 360 is fine, but you can't really post the cap and it's a little less comfortable as a daily user.

John Mottishaw, a nibs.com, has some old ones for sale periodically, and he might still have some old style Milords for sale.

I only have the Ogiva and its a great pen. Will buy more Omas in the future.

You can find used omas pens for a very good price if you wait around in the marketplace.

Excellent pens, fantastic material (resin and celluloid), ultra smooth reliable nibs.
A 360 Magnum (the biggest one) is one of my favourite pens.
Some people are not quite fond of new production, but I have none to comment about.

I love the 360, though I prefer the looks of the older style.

Like any company, they have issues from time to time.

I've got an Emotica, and love the titanium nib

(1) Lots of good things have been said here on the forum about the Paragon. Do a search here or read all about it in the database here.

(2) "My" store (which I don't own or work in) has told me to "stay away" from Omas today since Omas somewhat resembles MB today. I.e. too much marketing and glamour, too little quality, zero QC.

Hmmm at least I won't buy an Omas soon. Too many pens on my list from other companies, most of which have a better reputation.

Whew!

Omas is an excellent brand; the only Italian brand I trust to make high quality and reliable pens.

Great pens. Find one of the pre-2005 designs (the post-2005 designs are in current production) for the most "classic" and, in my opinion, best looks. The Paragon and the Ogiva are among my favorite pens balance-wise and nib-wise. It really doesn't get much better as far as non-nibmeister pens are concerned.

I can tell you that after just last night having received my first newer OMAS in several years-an Arco Milord- it appears that with regard to the actual quality of the finishing, alignment and overall way it is screwed together, the new ones are made better than the old. I know it has a Bock nib, but even the way it writes is comparable to my Marconi (the ebonite feeds look remarkably similar). I'll qualify the remark about alignment with the fact that the facets on mine are not aligned. I was referring to things like the clip being straight, etc.

I think there are a number of things to like with the older models, and there is no doubt that thenew ones have some QC issues (you read too many stories to argue that point, and I have to admit I was holding my breath waiting for this pen (and probably still will for a while)), but some of the love that people have for pre-LV models is emotional.

Having said that, I prefer the older 360. I have two, but they are both rollerballs since at the time I bought them, I didnt realize there were people like John Mottishaw that could reset the angle of the nib.

While i don't own a very large collection of Omas pens, the 5 i have are a delight and i won't sell them to anyone!!
I did once own a 360 but sold it the same day.Just didn't like the design.

I have an Omas 360 that I absolutely love as a writer. Mine is the vision, which is the clear demonstrator with the HT trim. I bought it from Mottishaw (Nibs.com), which is the place I would recommend if you buy a new Omas. He tests each pen out before delivery, so you know it works right.

The 360 is an interesting design, some like it, some don't. If you can, I would try one out first, to make sure that you like it.

I have only one Omas pen which is a Paragon, so my experience might be limited. The Omas Paragon has one of the best nibs among my small pen collection. I am a traditionalist at heart. I find the 360 interesting, but probably won't spend my money on it.

I have seen so many positive reviews on Omas pens. So if you like the design of the pen, go for it.

Omas is my favorite brand. They have been producing amazingly beautiful and stellar writers. I am mostly fond of their 1990s production and less of the most recent changes but that is just me. The 1990s pens are still some of the most beautiful contemporary celluloids out there! However, sometimes they can be initially finicky and recalcitrant when you use them for the first time. Once they work though, they keep doing so in a most pleasing way. thumbup.gif

Guess I'm the voice of dissent here.

I've owned two and still have a 360.

Both were bad on running dry and skipping on the down-stroke.

I even sent the 360 out for feed work. It came back writing better but still skips enough to stay out of my rotation.

Hi all. My experience with Omas pens is limited but I have to say they have underwhelmed me. I have a Omas Ogiva Guilloche and the bulid quality of it has disappointed me as it seems cheap in the hand. Great looking pens though.

I only have 1, the 360 Vision. The B nib writes like a juicy BB and it's glorious to look at and hold. My only beef is the tiny amount of ink it holds.

I have a dozen or so Omas pens and really do enjoy them. I sold most of my 557F pens last year, except a resin HT, a resin mezzo, Galileo and my T2 LE. I have 3 or 4 versions of older 360's, silver Marconi, Ercolessi...... My favorite Omas pens are my newest ones, the Arco Paragon, Blolgna celluloid, black with gold veins and the ever elusive HT Bolonga in the saffron blue celluloid. They are bigger and heavier that the original pens, much more to my liking. Omas pens are not cheap but good deals can be found with diligence and with the willingness to buy a previous loved, i.e. used, pen.

This image is shamelessly lifted from marco's site.

This is my personal believe-Omas makes the best writers because of there nibs.
I have 2 Omas pens:
1.Paragon (old style)
2.Ogiva

These 2 pens are my best and favorite writers.

Definitely not with the pen that you depict. roflmho.gif It's sought after and doesn't come cheap.
Great pen, though. I love the stark contrast between the silver trim and the marbled saffron/blue/white celluloid.

I have 3 Omas pens: a 360 Magnum (old style), fine; an OGIVA Guilloche with a medium nib (getting re-done by Mr. Mottishaw) and a milord old style fine.

The 360 is my clear favourite. It is a joy to write with (nibs.com tells me that it's the Paragon nib which would explain it), I love the size and it has ink in it forever! THe Milord is growing on me, but I'm definetly a big pen person. My only other big desire is to own an OMAS celluloid - they just look fantastic! cloud9.gif

Excellent brand. Buy one. You'll probably like it.

I'll add to most people's opinion by saying that OMAS is a wonderful brand. Like Wolfgang (omasfan), I have a penchant for the 90's production pens, but my Vecchietti is also very well made.

Best,

I have an older style 360 in royal blue celluloid and a modern (post 2005) Paragon Arco. Apart from being stunningly beautiful pens, they are great writers. I've tried every Italian brand and none are better than Omas.

Thanks for the replies.

What about a 360 ball point (old version) ? It seems it could use roller's refills.

Is $100 a good price for this roller ?

They are first class quality pens with delightful nibs. What is sad is taht their customer service is dreadful and takes very long if not too long to fix things and make them right.
bugmd
Actually I did get mine "previously loved" at a reasonable price.

Have i been crooked?

Right now, on the Pentrace Market Board, there's an Omas Bologna for sale for what seems a reasonable price.

Lucky you! Congratulations! The saffron blue is a bit like catnip usually. People end up paying a lot of money for it. thumbup.gif
