My collection, so far, includes:
- Montblanc Mozart, too small for my hands and the medium nib is too thick for me.
- Pelikan M800, with a medium nib, and a great pen. I think I might like the F or XF nib better.
- Visconti Van Gogh, midi, also in fine nib, and another great pen.
- Cross Townsend, black, fine nib. Was my 2nd pen, I love this pen. Got me hooked on fountain pens as writing instruments in a big way and lead me down the path for needing pen rehab.

My next big purchase will be a new Montblanc 149. I love a big pen. I'd love to know what people think of the Montblanc's in a fine nib.

THIS SITE IS GREAT!!!

Hi Mike, this is Mike too!

Glad you joined up. Now please don't get this wrong...but you asked for it (literally, not figuratively...)
I got an M800 and love it. So much that I then got an M215 for my T-shirt pocket but I'm getting an M320 because it's even smaller.
Now for the punchline. I got fairly big hands too and last week I held a MB149 in my hand because there are so many 149-ravers here (I think about 149% of all MB fetishists love the 149).
BUT... the 149 is too big for my tastes and I'll get a 146 instead (don't have any MBs yet).
Finally, the 149 being a whopper, I can't imagine any nib on it smaller than a B would "fit" or "belong to" the situation.

WHEW!

Welcome to FPN, Michael, Greetings from Ann Arbor, MI
Well, the MB 149 is a great pen, though I prefer the vintage ones- from the early '70s or the late '60s.
As for the pens like the Pelikan 800 whose nibs are not 100% to your liking- you can always have one of the nibmeisters to grind it down to you r specific nibs.
BTW, I think there is a Pen Club in the St Louis area. I remember seeing mention of itin the Clubs?meetings subforum of FPN.

Deceptive, but smooth. Depending on the paper, it will write fine, or it will write mediumish. Regardless of paper, the nibs are excellently smooth and wonderful for long-haul writing-tasks.

Cost you some sleep? That's the least of it.

It is going to cost you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

Welcome to the group that has forced most of us to learn to be frugal in most aspects of life so we can indulge in our fantasy fountain pens.

With your MB interests, it will cost you more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ than many of the rest of us, but hey, to each his own!

Welcome to both you from North StL County.

Someone mentioned a club. Don't know when or where they meet, but look at the club notices for SLAPU - St. Louis Area Pen User's, I believe.

Hello and welcome to FPN.

Welcome, Mike. I'm in the St. Louis area too. I just purchased a Montblanc Le Grand with a fine nib and it's great. When I purchase a 149 it will probably be with an XF nib. I'd go to the MB boutique at Plaza Frontenac and try the different nibs; everyone at the store is very helpful and accommodating.

Have you found any pen stores in St. Louis?

Welcome!
I was just in St. Louis a couple weeks ago looking at Washington University. It's really a beautiful and revitalized city.

Thanks for all the great information so far. I was able to get some information on a St. Louis Area Pen Users group. If you want information, you can find it here:

Keep the info coming on good pen shops in the St. Louis area.

Philip, WU is my alma mater. It's a great school, but then I'm a bit biased.
