Hi, I'm new here but an old Mont Blanc fountain pen collector.
I' ve made my collection mostly from trips all over but some I have bought in E-bay and
similar sites from around the World.
I found one here that really shocked me and would like to know your opinion.

This pen is most certainly fake. It doesn't come close to resembling any genuine Montblanc design.

The metal parts, like the clip and the end near where the ballpoint comes out, don't even bother to try to look like MB designs. The star-in-circles symbol never appears like that on the surface of any MB design. The word Germany in fairly big letters on the cap of the pen never appears like that on real MB's. And finally, if you look at the pictures, is the black star with the MONT BLANC name inside a cheap box, a strong indicator of a fake MB.

Hi Eda,

Yes, that is a fake - and a badly made as well.
But if you like some really good yikes.gif fakes then have a look here: http://www.ulookbetter.net/mont-blanc-pens...32&sort=20a
And if you now think about the possibility of putting one of these pens into a better faked (or even in an original) box of Montblanc you'll never buy a Montblanc pen in the internet anymore!

Best regards,
Axel

Haha..i do agree. When i was at school time, I had some fun buying faked montblancs out of the local flea market at 5-10 dollars of my local currency (which was really cheap). I still keep some of them for the sake of memory. On the other hand, i must say that some of the fakes are not too bad afterall (considering its price). Long term quality wise, certainly no match. Most of the nibs fell off by themselves roflmho.gif

Now, I'm worried because I've bought a few on E Bay. I try to be picky with the seller's reputation and all but I guess I will take them to a MB boutuque to doble check.

These two appeared in Poland:
Fake StarWalker
Fake Kafka
The seller admits these are replicas, but this is wrong nevertheless.

What about these two (apart from the fact, that their S/N's are the same NDL 33966L):

Hi Sarrelangue,

The seller can swear what ever he likes but he lies when he is says these items are real Montblanc items.

1.) The boxes and all papers are definately faked and not made by Montblanc! Just look at the stars.
2.) The rollerball has a "never-made-by-Montblanc" grip section.

No, that was the starting price.
Look at the bids: ".... The seller ended the listing early and cancelled all bids ...."
There have been 14 bids up to 700.00 US$.
Why he cancelled the bids? I don't know (and hate this function!).

I know the feeling Axel.

But have you ever been watching an auction where the seller has cancelled and sold to the highest bidder?

Happened to me a few month's back. I can't remember what the pen was but it was sold cheap - had me pulling my hair out!

I'm sorry to do that, but I really didn't have much of a choice. Auctiva had a major crash on all their pictures... I know I dont buy anything without pictures... I considered canceling all my auctions (I had 14 total), but decided I would take the losses on the others...( I really needed the money) Which did, unfortunately turn out ugly... Most people bid in the last minutes, if not seconds. I only had one auction with bids last minute and I believe it was sniped.
So... I do apologize if I bothered anyone here, especially in this forum. This was not my intention, but an auction/ sale with not pictures is well... Pointless as far as I am concerned...
Cheers!

Please help me here...

I am making an inventory of my MB fountain pen collection and when I ran into Leonard Bernstein FP , couldn't find the papers or the serial number that is supposed to be in the ring. Only the "Philarmonica Of Nations", Mont Blanc Legend in the buttom ring and the musical notes on the middle one. It should be original because I bought it from an authorized dealer in France years ago.
Where is the serial number??? or does de LB has none?
Please help.

eBay does attempt to weed out the corrupt, but the problem is ongoing. PayPal does have policies in place to help in a bad situation. However, it really comes down to buyer beware!

I have a fake 146 that a friend brought back from China when he went to Hong Kong on business. It is a good enough forgery that the folks at my local boutique couldn't tell. We showed them that the matching pens that he had bought for himself and his wife had identical serial numbers and they almost fell over. There are some counterfeiters in the world who make a very good fake.

BTW:
The fake writes almost as well as my genuine 146 and I still use it almost daily.

A friend of mine sells on ebay for a living. He tells me that people have, in the past, filed claims through paypal for refunds, stating that items were recieved damaged. Paypal's policy on this is that the item must be returned, but some people have sent him boxes full of paper and rocks, the return is somehow tracked and weight must be verified(not sure how, shipping cost maybe).
I got a bit off of topic, sorry. He also tells me that there is a way to get a refund for non-delivery. Paypal refunds the money and charges it against the seller's account.

It is in my desk at work, but I will look tomorrow for you. The most common sign of a fake, that I've seen, is the cap band imprint. The genuine band has lettering that spans the band almost completely from top to bottom of the area between the bevelled edges. The fakes have around 1mm on either side.

I understand some of the counterfeit watches on the market use the exact same movements as the originals. Which brings up the question, what is fake? Is "genuine" just the box that it came in?

There are deals to be had on eBay, but when it comes to items that have a history of being faked/copied, one must be extremely careful. I'd rather pay more from an authorized dealer and know I've gotten the real deal.

I'm also glad I never pursued an eBay store. To hear of people returning an item and sending rocks instead of the actual merchandise back is quite unnerving. Especially now, when eBay has taken out the ability of sellers to leave feedback for buyers. What kind of lunacy is that? As far as I can see, the only way to really make it on eBay is to either do a high enough volume where you tolerate a certain percentage of buyer abuse or focus on items that cater to people with higher values.

You don't have to go to China to get duped with fakes. Go to the bay, it's stodged with fakes.
And as long as stupid and avaricious buyers think they can get a "sale of the Century" from the bay, there will be cheaters to gratify them.

I think I paid 112$ for it.

Out of interest, what is the serial number of the counterfeit?

- I have my suspicions regarding one particular Ebay seller, although the pens look completely genuine.

It is in my desk at work, but I will look tomorrow for you. The most common sign of a fake, that I've seen, is the cap band imprint. The genuine band has lettering that spans the band almost completely from top to bottom of the area between the bevelled edges. The fakes have around 1mm on either side.

GE1549639 on mine.

Many thanks for that. It is different to the Ebay seller I had suspicions about but it is worth making a note of for i/ding future counterfeits.

That doesn't mean that different counterfeiters didn't get different legit serial numbers to copy.
Just that this one has this one.

I don't know if these auctions are fakes, but there is certainly something fishy about them. The auction for 8 (!) 149s at a BIN price of only US $78.50 apiece is hilarious lticaptd.gif.

Take care!

Looks like ebay has already lifted it away smile.gif
