As a starting ink, I don't think you could ever go wrong with Waterman Blue. It is the first ink I use in any new pen of mine as it is safe, has great flow and a good colour.
Best of luck and I hope you enjoy using yours! What nib do you have on yours? Mine came with the regular medium nib but I recently bought a gigantic BB nib that makes it write a bit like a fat permanent marker

Wow..that's a lovely pen. Congratulations, thats a really great gift. I have used Waterman Florida Blue in my M600 for years. It's a nice colour, safe, easy to get and very reliable. So like feiye i think thats a good ink to start with.
Yeah, Waterman Florida Blue is the one that wimg suggested me in the past. Eventually, I have found some old posts. It is a good starting ink for every pen. The nib is Medium... as I wrote... I don't like B or bigger nib... I have two (one Stipula Titanium and one Parker Sonnet) and I don't like them. They are good just for informal letters to friends.
I have filled the pen with it. But I have found that Medium on a M1000 is bigger than Medium on M150.

I would go for the Waterman Florida Blue too. It's a great ink and I think somewhere in Richard Binder's website he says that Waterman is the best ink for any pen.But you could go for Pelikan ink as well. You are very lucky indeed.Getting a M1000 as a gift...Wow...
I have quite a lot of Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black because in the past I had bought a 1000ML bottle and also if I have used it during these years, there are still a lot of little brown bottles full of it. I have also 5 or 6 bottles of Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue but I think that bot inks are not very good as starting ink because of they don't lubricate the pen, even though they flow very well.

Nice pen, great girlfriend. Both are keepers, I'd say.
Yeah, I know. Thank you. I'll do.

My gf, reading this compliment, started to think good about my collection, better than in the past.

What a great gift; congrats on your pen.
I would suggest good ol' Aurora Black. This ink has excellent properties and will give you a good idea of the ink-flow of your pen. The M1000's are notoriously wet writers so if the Aurora flows too freely then you may want to try a less free-flowing ink.
I hope you enjoy your new pen.
Greg~
I will try because by now I don't hav any Aurora ink and I have started the pen with Waterman Florida Blue.

What a great gift! An M-1000 is a FP icon. I have three and I love them.
I just commented in another thread that I am particular about the ink I use in piston fillers. I generally stick to J. Herbin, Pelikan or MontyB, but I do use Waterman inks as well. I would recommend any of those brands, and suggest you decide for yourself what color looks good coming out of a huge pen with a green barrel. - I personally like contrasting colors, so I would use Pelikan Brilliant Brown or J. Herbin Cafe des Iles; or Pelikan Purple or Herbin Violet Pensee.
As an aside, I like Herbin inks, but their bottles are not very useful, especially when filling an M-1000. For a 1000, I usually unscrew the nib unit and fill the pen with an eye dropper (from the bottle). That method saves a lot of frustration.
If with MontyB you mean Mont Blanc, I have one of it, Bourdeaux, nice color but I don't like the ink's features. I will buy some Herbin inks in the future, because I want to try them...
I don't have problems of filling the M1000. By now I'm filling the pen from the Waterman bottle, and in the future I will use my Stipula Netto Netto or my Visconti Travelling Ink Pot, that is good at home too.

You might want to get a bottle of one of the Pelikan inks. IME, these inks run a little on the dry side and the 1000 tends to be a wet writer anyway, so with some inks the M nib may really put out some serious ink. Have fun. j
As I said, I started now with the Waterman Florida Blue, but because of my big stock of Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black, it is sure I will use it too.

Congratulations!!! I exactly know how do you feel. one of the greatest pen. you have an excellent girlfriend.
I use (the same pen) next ink:
10 parts of pelikan blue
10 parts of pelikan green
1 part of pelikan black
for me this mixture suits best to the greeen striated pel 1000.
Nice suggestion... Mixing inks... And I have some ink wells as gifts from Pens.it to use for it. Thanks a lot!

The M1000 is a very nice pen. I think you'll like it. What a wonderful girlfriend you have. Maybe I should consider getting a girlfriend....
Good idea... and thanks for the compliment!
