Hola!
I just got a new Hero 100 from iSellPens. Out of the box, I found the hooded nib was rotationally misaligned- that's my guess at least. That is, the sharp little plastic point indicating the mid-point of the nib is not pointing into the middle of the nib, but rather into the left tine. The pen writes fine, but it has the *really* annoying effect of whenever I pick it up and go to write I have to stop and purposefully fix the way I'm holding it, because otherwise it doesn't write.
I emailed Todd, and he said that he thinks I should just keep it, but that otherwise I could send it in for a replacement along with $5.00. I was wondering what you guys would do- send it in, or try to fix it myself? I've never done such a repair, but I was wondering if tips here would suffice?
I can take some photos and send them along tommorow-
Thanks!
Regards,
Aaron

If it bothered me that much I would fix it. I have done the same to a P51 & it really isn't difficult.

Richard.

Here are the photos, if anyone is curious. How would I go about fixing this?

Heat the hood and section in either very hot (near boiling) water or with a hair dryer or other similar heat source to just above 140 F. This is just hot enough to hold. Grip with a rubber grippy pad or something similar and attempt to unscrew the retaining sleeve but remember it unscrews LEFT HAND (backward of normal). I don't know if it is shellaced or not.
Once you get the sleeve out, I believe the nib and collector should be keyed together -- another FPN member has dis-assembled a Hero 100, and has his experiences written up. Do not attempt to just unscrew the hood, as it will break something for sure.
Once you get it apart, you can correctly install the nib and re-assemble.

"...Heat the hood and section in either very hot (near boiling) water..."
in this case I suggest to cover the section with plastic bag before inmerse in water to protect the plastic section, sandwich bag works fine, good Luck!

hot water clouds some plastics. It's a new pen. Send it back. My 2 cents!

I suggest you send it back to have it professionally tinkered with. You don't wanna do something on a brand-new pen and then regret it.

The "send it backers" have prevailed- and Todd also waived the $5.00 re-ship fee. Turns out, it also doesn't start all the time either- seemed fine on fill (when the nib had been dipped!), but after having it inked for a few days it doesn't seem to start most of the times, even though the cap has been on. Thanks to Todd at iSellPens!
