Okay, would put a pic up but I can't figure out how to clear out my old attachments. Just trust me, it's awesome.

In the mean time, how do you get rid of old images so you can post beautiful new pen porn....

Adam
Have Fun
Go to My Controls then on LHS select manage attachments then tick the boxes of the photos you want to delete - then delete

Also it would save space / bandwidth if the image was a reduced jpeg ~ I nomally reduce to 800x600 & then save image at 75% of original quality

You can post a lot more images that way & get them faster loading

NB any photos you want to keep on display can be reprocessed as above & then reposted in the thread

Thanks very much, Have Fun!

This is my own personal "holy grail" pen so I am really pleased that it was all that it was made out to be!
The only sane response is: bunny01.gif yes this deserves the dancing bunny!

NICE Visumaster, congratulations. I have one in green, but the brown is gorgeous.

Very nice indeed: a beautiful transitional. The section is _quite_ neat. What is the story concerning the jewel?
gregamckinney
It is a Visumaster, not a transitional (despite the common, no-jewel barrel bottom.) The jewels on the Visumasters are metal. See Brian Anderson's section on the Visumaster here:

How much does a Visumaster generally go for, and what would be a good way of going about finding one in decent condition?

Okay so the first part of my question was answered with this: http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...mode=linearplus

And I am kinda of getting the idea that the best way of finding one in decent condition will be by regularly watching ebay, the marketplace etc, and pure luck.

But if anyone has more insight into these questions, I would definitely appreciate it!

As far as cost goes, I paid $120 for mine and I considered that a bargain. It would fit firmly into the high end of very good (probably a 9 out of 10) I was prepared to pay WAYYYY more than what I did. I think the key to finding one is persistence as you already stated. They are not common but they are not unique either. I'm sure they exist in pen shops and through reseller's too but if I ever sold mine (this particular one) I would mark it north of $250 just because it's not like you can get them just any where. I hope to have a green one to resell soon if it works out... here's hoping...

Wow, I had no idea Esterbrook made these. Isn't it maddening to think this pen might've been about 30-50% more than the standard Esterbrook but is now commanding 10x the going price of a similar condition standard J model? hmm1.gif

Great eye candy, but not a user pen given the scarcity. Oh well. The marble pattern is gorgeous. If only there was a hidden cache of these somewhere, in some guy's (sumgai's) attic somewhere, just waiting to be discovered by an eBay enabled seller. biggrin.gif

Esterbrooks were made to write with!! Scarcity doesn't stop me from using my two 3xxx nibs routinely, and if I had a visumaster, I sure would get it writing the second it was in my hands! I see Esties as a Everyman's pen, a workhorse of the writing world, and simply because many of them are beautiful should never put them out to pasture without writing their fair share of a novel, a collection of poems, a philosophical treatise, or twenty years worth of grocery lists!!

LOL! and here I thought I was the only one who dreamed of such things. roflmho.gif I envision some old business that has a stash of boxes that were old office stock that never got used and was just...stored away...seemingly forever. Then the time comes to sift through the boxes and wa-la...an entire box of unopened pens......a small fortune. A treasure.

That'd be my dream someday smile.gif

Quite right: my naming error. It seems I have only come across the Visumaster 3 before, anyway, with the plastic jewel.

Which, of course, isn't exactly visualized, so to speak.

Okay here is the cap pictue, although for the record I was so grossed out after taking the shot that I have since been vigorously polishing at it trying to remove the corrosion...

ick! It would help to know what kind of metal that is. I have had some good luck with a chemically treated cloth for cleaning tarnish from silver. I have used it on some other metals and it has removed tarnish and corrosion (other than rust). I wish I knew who made the cloth. It came with my AudioQuest speaker cables.

Yes, the extra swirly design is normal for the 2048. I think they were the offspring of the older Falcon dip pen nibs. I like the 2048 - just a hint of flex.

After looking at this pen for a few days, I think I would like to find one of these. I only ever had a rough project pen, that I long since sold to someone else that had greater patience than me, it needed a clip. Anyway, I think these are terrific looking pens, anyone got any advice as to how I might get one, or come across one? What do these typically sell for?

Rick,

Visumasters are hard to find. I'd put them at the rare end of Esterbrook. One recently sold on E-bay with a badly stained section for ~275. More than a lot of us thought it would sell for. In my world they are ~150 pens with blue and green in more demand than the grey and brown. There are subtle variants so check out Brian's reference page. If you start looking, go for a Version 1 or 2, they have the cool cap tops. If you find a hoard of them, call me.

The best place I've found to get them recently is (and I hate to say this) E-bay (play ominous music here). Perhaps 3-4 a year show up there and they all sell well.

Wow. only 3 to 4 a year. Its no wonder they sell for as much as they do because the next opportunity, if ever, may be some time away o____o

Another place to look are estate sales (check your local paper or online) and believe it or not....small antique shops and flea markets. I found 2 esties in excellent condition for 5 bucks as a small antique shop. Clearly they didn't know what they had smile.gif

Actually, I believe what you see is commonly called "green rust" in corrosion.
It is a partially oxidized iron hydroxide. Halogen anions lead to fluoride green rust, chloride green rust etc.
But no, this is NOT what you have in your toothpaste smile.gif
