Iīve just bought one cool.gif ! I was checking the RickConner site, and it says this pen has "celluloid cap and barrel". Is it so? I donīt think the cap looks any different from the plastic one in my M200, except from the gold-plated derby.
Iīve read somewhere that the celluloid cap should smell of camphor, but I donīt know what camphor smells like...
Does anyone know ?

regards,
Rique

Celluloid Nitrate has the camphor smell not the Celluloid Acetate. Most Pen companies use Celluloid Acetate because it is not volitale as Celluloid Nitrate. There are only a very select few companies that use Celluloid Nitrate. I know that the Platinum Pen Company uses Celluloid nitrate in very limited quantities on some pens like the Celluloid collection. As for your question, I do not have and answer for you.

Camphor is kind of a eucalyptis/menthol smell. Reminds me of when I have a cold!!!

Hi Rique,

Some older (vintage) Pelikans had a cap made of black celluloid, but I think the modern ones have caps made of resin. I am not an expert on Pels, so someone else will have to tell you which models those were biggrin.gif.

TNS, do you mean to say the cap should smell like Vickīs Vaporub?? No, thanks, Iīve had enough of that in my childhood... tongue.gif
Wim, I also donīt think it is celluloid; at least it looks, feels and smells just like the plastic cap in the M200. Not that it matters; I was just intrigued about what Rick Conner said and wanted to check it out.
