Well, that's the one I had on my watchlist
Don't need another 400NN (except for any kind of broad nib) so I did not bid.
Pen has an oblique nib and is described as in good condition and working order. May have a little bit of discoloration (picture is not good enough to say for sure) but most of the vintage 400 or 400NN have some. If you like the oblique nib you will have a very nice pen.
Congratulation!

Nice buy! Looks like an excellent example.
One question, though. Are you in Germany or if not, how do you manage the Überweisung? This seems to be my problem unless the seller offers PayPal. It's a bit of a hassle from my banks here in the USA. IBAN, BIC codes and the surcharge often exceeds the price of your auction.
Just curious, thanks. Danke schön! --Doug

In this case you may contact me.
If you paypal the money to me I can transfer it to the seller. Bank transfer within Germany is free ....
Had the same problem with a payment to Pam Brown - and every money wire transfer I could find was somewhat about 20 (!!!!) Euros

For Eu residents: Überweisung is now (from January 2008) made easy in the Euro zone by the new
SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) programme.
Basically I am now able to transfer money from my bank account via internet at zero cost in the whole Europe. Nice feature! However I reckon Paypal a better service for the prevention of fraud.
And, sbullock, welcome to the owners club! here's some pictures of my 400:

DougS, those vintage tortoise Pelikans are beautiful!
They are my favourite vintage Pels. And yes, these birds tend to be social - at least the ones I have

Thanks. The Pelikans are models 400 (1950-56) and 400NN (1956-65). The slightly longer 400NN can be recogized by the tapered cap and streamlined turning knob. I hastily took that shot after I got a stack of postcards from Leipzig, circa 1909. Stylish handwriting!

(1) WOWIEZOWIE. Good buy... I should try out same. I'm always in the habit of trying out something first in "my store" since there I can at least hold the darn thing in my hand and write with it before buying it.
(2) I've never had any problems lately with Überweisungen. That's all been "normalized" and "certified" lately (mainly by German forces)...
'Ave ze nice dayo
