Full Version: Father's Day weekend with Gojira...

Yokozuna means "Grand Champion" in Sumo Wresting and
"Gojira" is Japanese for Godzilla. Eitherway, this is a big pen. Judging from all the back channel emails I got there are quite a few of you like big pens. Last Friday I received the 2nd prototype to test it out, and personally, I like the less "angular" look of second prototype better as the feel is better in my hand with the curves, and it also make the pen less hefty visually.

Here is the first prototype:

Here is the 2nd prototype:

Size comparason to Genkai on left and Mikado on right

Uncapped with Mikado on left and Geankai on right

Compare to the Mikado nib

The hand done nib shows detail engraving of a "Grand Champion" with his traditional ceremonial gear. It is marked on the right lower hand corner with words "Pure 24kt Gold"

Close up of the nib, the Kanji means "Yokozuna"

Ebonite feed:

How does it write? well, nice and smooth with softness (sorry for bad handwriting). I was told they can make this nib as soft as needed.

Overall an impressive size pen with very detailed Japanese hand made nib that is wet and smooth. It would have been a very nice Father's Day gift, but alas... I have to return the pen.

Hope you all have a great Father's Day weekend.

Kevin,
Is Dani intending to introduce a metal plated version called Mecha-gorjia? roflmho.gif I don't think I'd be able to use it but I love the nib! Please tell me that they'll offer it in a smaller pen.

Maybe somewhere down the line. They are a small company and to put out too many at one time is just not financially viable, but let's hope so.

Best,

Kevin,

The pen is truly beautiful; especially its feeder and the nib. Is the feeder also handmade? Also does the second prototype have a shutoff valve?

Regards,
Hari,

Yes the feed is hand done as well. The 2nd prototype is also an ED with shut off valve. Glad you like the pen.

Impressive pen there, Kevin--thanks for sharing with us. The nib is hilarious, with the big Sumo fellow on it. biggrin.gif The hand engraving is superb! And I really like the flex exhibited in the writing--like a real wrestler. wink.gif

How well does the matte finish ebonite hold up to natural hand oils? I'm just wondering if the matte turns a bit shiny where the pen is held, or does a good wiping down to remove the oils reveal the matte finish again.

Hi Gary,

Yes, the matte does become more "polish" with use. Glad you like the pen.

Just absolutely beautiful in its size and simplicity, Kevin.

Convince Danitrio to make this available already with a choice of affordability - like the raw ebonite of Mikado and Densho, so a soul like mine can also enjoy its creation.

Perhaps a clip, concordant to its size and form, can tame this beauty into a daily writer functionality.

Please keep us drooling and awake on this "Gojira" with its mighty "Yokozuma" nib - maybe with a choice of 0.3 - 0.4mm soft, semi or full flexed?

Thanks for sharing,
nolapens

If my arthritis doesn't improve, I may be in line for one of these jumbo pens. wink.gif

Soon... but Danitrio is working to look for ways to keep the production cost down as much as possible. Traditional Japanese artisans are not into assembly line-like production and so you see their prices generally higher than their European counter part. Japanese hand made pens are generally pricey because we are paying for the "time" involved, whereas for other pen companies we seem to pay more for the "name".

I'm affarid I should pay some more visits to the Gym before considering it! biggrin.gif
I find it very original, but being a Mikado size user... I can't imagine how could it feel in the hand. Perhaps it will be better to wait till the arthritis develops... and yes, prorotype #2 is more up to my taste.
Congrats again to Danitrio!

Kevin, please let us know as soon as it becomes available! (I say "we" not because I'm Queen Victoria - but because I suspect there are many people who are interested in this beautiful pen.)

Uh Oh. What a great looking nib.

Looks like another internal organ will have to go to market to fund one of these. You don't really need a liver do you? laugh.gif
