Hello,
I am interested in sorting out the Sailor 1911 variants, since the confusion in my head is prevailing. There are some useful threads here that are quite useful, for example:

So, from what I was able to read in the forum and on the Sailor website I understood the following:

  • 1911: full size pen, 21k nib and trim. Gold ring on section just after the caps threads. Black section and blind cap. Double band on cap. Available in Black, Transparent (GT and ST), Red, Blue, Yellow, Sterling Silver, Naginata Togi (GT only). Size: 18x141, 21,6g.
  • 1911M: mid size pen, 14k nib and trim. Gold ring on section just after the caps threads. Double band on cap. Available in Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, Transparent (GT only). Size: 17,5x135mm, Weight: 17g
  • Profit: it’s the name for the internal Japanese market for the 1911/1911M model. Others colors/trim are available (e.g. the Burgundy version in both sizes with colored ends, or Black Matte)
  • Classic: 1911/1911M with an anchor logo on blind cap and blind cap colored in same color: imported in US before 2006 discontinued since then;
  • Professional Gear: like 1911 but flat ends and smaller body: 17x132, 15,8g

Does it make sense? Do you have any suggestion on how to improve the list and/or the descriptions?

Now, here starts my confusion. I was in Japan last year and I purchased two “Profits”:
One is a regular model, the burgundy “short” you can see here:
http://66.102.9.104/translate_c?hl=en&....html%26hl%3Den

The other one was purchased as used and have strange variations. It is the short version (it does not seem to be a different name in Japan between the full and the medium size. Or –to be more precise- looks like the full size it is called Profit 21, but, read on…) but it is identified by the mark “SAILOR JAPAN PROFIT 21k” on the cap band (which is single, without the small second band). It has a 21k nib (H-EF). Finally there is a gold ring at the bottom of the section, where the nib starts.

Can someone tell me from which period this model was produced? It is a regular model or a special one?

Thanks in advance to everyone for your help!

The pen in question is a regular model called the Profit Standard and has been in production from 2000, or earlier. List price is Y10,000.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
But isn't the Profit Standard a 14k model? (like the 1911M)

Ok. I got a new hint. Found this pen on sale on the flea bay and it is really close to my pen:

It is really the same except two small details:
  • The nib engraving is different: mine has a simpler design, a plain anchor and a small Sailor on the bottom. 21k in the middle.
  • The phrase engraved on the cap band is painted in black

The interesting fact is that the auction state the pen is a NOS from 1985. Do anyone have more information on such a model? Do you believe mine is preceding or subsequent? I'm not able to tell because one of the difference is an improvement (the black engraving on the cap band) and the other is a worsening (the simpler nib design)...
