My Waterman Ideal has a flat feed on the bottom from the early 1900s has got its nib very loose from the feed and capable of being removed with almost no effort.

Is there a way to reset these vintage pen feeds/nibs without sending it in???

Any Help would be greatly appreciated as it is one of my favorites!!

Hi Tim,

The best way to do this is remove the feed as well using some section pliers and something that gives you grip and won't damage the pen. I assume it is an ED-filler. If not, remove the sac first, before pulling the feed out.

Be careful to pull it out straight, with a turning motion maybe, anti-clockwise, and make sure you do, because it might just break, in which case you need a new feed obviously.

Clean feed and nib properly, then put the nib back onto the feed, align it properly on the feed, and stick both back into the section, mayeb slightly turning when doing so, until it is in tight, making sure the nib stays in alignment (the difficult part).

That's it. If it was a lever filler, attach a new sac, and fill.

BTW, you could try and just stick the nib back in, but that is rather hard, because it has to be in the proper position on top of the nib, properly aligned on the feed, and still sit tight in the section. It is easier to get that right with the feed removed from the section first.

Okay, so I don't have to use hot water or anything just put it in place, nothing complicated or anything like that! BTW this happened after using Black Cherry PR ink can some inks cause something to happen like this?

Also how should the feed look against the nib.

(This is a leverfiller)

I have done just as Wim said and so far it worked out great the feed came out with no hassel at all, almost too easy, I put it back in and it seems to be perfect now!!
