Full Version: Sheaffer Needs New Nib

I picked up this Sheaffer which I believe is a Balance. The nib is badly bent and one tine is broken. Can someone help me with info on how to swap out the nib, if it can/should be done. Or is it worth sending out to a pro? I like to tinker so I would love to try it myself, but I also don't want to destroy the pen trying. Any input or advice is welcomed.

Treehugger,

If the tipping is not gone on that nib, it is fixable. If it is gone a replacement nib is relatively easy to find. Retipping is also possible.

If there are no cracks in the pen, it's worth repairing. As FarmBoy mentioned, if there is iridium on both tines, the nib can be straightened. If not, go for a replacement. A feather touch nib would be about or less than half the cost of having the nib retipped, especially when you consider the shipping charges in both directions.

It appears from the pic supplied that the irridium is still on the ends of the tines so it will be a matter of staightening them out. You will have to form the repaired nib to the feed using a bit of heat however so this is the pen to practice with......

does anyone know where to get irridium replaced for nibs? I'm at a cross-road decision as to get one repaired, cut the irridium off, or find a replacement????
