Full Version: How large a wax seal have you sent through the mail?

I recently received a new wax seal which measures about 1 1/4 inches across. Its quite large, especially since I normally use smaller envelopes. I've seen some bigger ones online (a 2 inch wide one on eBay UK) which weren't intended for mailling, but of course that is what I would want them for. Which makes me wonder how large a seal others have mailed. Obviously the choice of wax is important as well; I use a modern mailable wax that I am happy with, but how large can I go?

That's how big mine is. I only used it once on a letter mailed to Jeen, and I wasn't real happy how it turned out, but he never complained. Takes practice.

I have no problem with making the impression, I'm just wondering about a larger seal being more likely to be damaged or destroyed in the mail.

I think it will have to do more with how thick you make the seal vs how large in diameter. If you put 15 or so drops down and then swirl it with the end of the wax stick to spread and cover more area, you'll have a nice large seal that isn't too thick. I've sent a few through the mail that were over 1-1/4 inches in diameter, I never heard that they caused any problems. Thicker spots of wax formed around the edges of the seal when pressed are what are likely to get hung up in postal equipment, I think. I also use Atelier Gargoyle waxes, the stuff specifically mentioned as being designed for the mails.
