Full Version: And so begins an addiction...

Yet another newbie here with a quick introduction. I haven't used a fountain pen in many years....since high school when all I would write with was an inexpensive Parker Vector. I was just doing some clutter cleaning and ran across two fountain pens I had found and tossed in a box a few years ago. Wondering what they were I started google hunting and found this amazing forum...

So I have figured out what I have, I think...thanks to the knowledgeable folks here and the search function. One seems to be a Blue Mont Blanc Slimline (Noblesse??)...and the other a brown/black marbled enamel Waterman Executive (a third pen was one of the afore mentioned Vectors from high school...talk about gunked up). Not phenomenal pens but not half bad for free finds. I will admit that it is all I can do to keep myself from going newbie crazy and get more, more, more pens and ink...

Anyhow, thanks for the great community and opportunity to learn about the inner workings of my new addiction.

Well, I'm afraid to say that you're in the worst place to deal with addiction. Oops, first I should say hi and welcome.
The more you read here, the more you'll buy there.

There! I said it!!

Alas, what is a pen without ink...and paper, for that matter...ooooh, and nibs of all flavors...and, and...

Yep...I can see myself going a bit overboard with ink testing...color, and the subtleties therein, are well partnered with a fountain pen...

And thanks all for a warm welcome...

I guess resist isn't the right word. Perhaps "pace myself" would be better...I'm rather anxious to get my hands on a few of Lexaf's Reform 1745's...and there are always a few Hero's and Duke's and such tempting me. Alas, I am still at the point where my addiction can be easily satisfied. I can remember, was it just last week, when I would have choked a bit at the thought of spending $30 on a pen...today $30 and a few good reviews makes me get a bit giddy and think that is rather inexpensive.

And then comes the ink. Limitless, in that I am already pondering the custom concoctions I may want to dabble with. I have a feeling I will be over at Peartree indulging in the wonderful samples. Of course I will need to "reset" and buy a bottle or two so I can get more samples.

What I find a bit interesting is my nine year old son, who has likely some of the worst printing in history, is already eyeballing the pens and expressing a strong interest in learning more formal scripts, and of course drawing to his hearts content. I'm all for it. Anything that can garner his attention in the realm of letters on paper is great. thumbup.gif

Welcome,

Its all downhill now mate !!!!

There is a qoute used on the bottom of someones messages on here, it goes something like:

" My biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my pens at the prices I told her I bought them at "

If that means nothing to you now beleive me its only a matter of time.

Regards,

ian.
