The nib/feed units can be switched between a Pilot Varsity and a Pilot Petit1. Since all the Varsities I've seen have a medium nib and all the Petit1's have a fine nib the switch gives a fine nib varsity and a medium nib Petit1.

The Petit1 feed has a cylindrical extension that goes inside the cartridge spike in the section while the Varsity feed has a plain flat end. The physical difference doesn't seem to affect performance.

Varisty/Vpens are available in fine nib also. But may be more difficult to find since they are not intended for us market.
