We were up at my parent's for Sunday dinner and I was showing off my Pel 250 with a Binderized Stub Italic nib (btw, nice job Richard, thanks!). Mom and dad had given me some Christmas money and I wanted to show what it had gone toward (plus gift money from my kids I had given them to give back to me tongue.gif ).

Anyway, Dad went upstairs to his desk. We heard a bunch of shuffling and bangs, and shouts of "why can't people stay out of my stuff!!!" filter down the stairs, but we had no idea what he was doing. Low and behold, he comes down with a Wearever lever filler, white barrel, black cap and stanless steel nib and cap band. He gives it to me and said he used it in high school (circa 1964) in art class and I could have it if I want it.

It needs quite a bit of tender loving care, but I hope to restore it and put it into rotation if it a good user. If I get a chance I'll take some pics at work with the digital camera and post both.

Yeah for me!

No matter how modestly priced a pen might have been in its heyday, it becomes priceless when you find out that it's been used by a dear relative.
Great gift, Kevin! smile.gif

Wow! Great gift Kevin! I'd really like to see some pics when you are ready with the pen!

I still have my granddad's pen, which my gran gave me a long time ago, on his behalf. I think a piece of family history is a great gift, and if it is a fountain pen...

Warm regards, Wim

Wow, nice gift. This Christmas my parents-in-law visited and they were surprised I collected pens. My father in law is a frenchman, born in Paris and emigrated to NZ in the 50's. He is sending me a pen of his mothers', can't wait to see what it is.

Here is the pic. Beauty and the Beast:

I was able to get the Wearever apart. The compression bar was broken and it will need a new sack. But I still love it.

that's great, Kevin. Da Bear dug out an old Esterbrook for me a few years ago that he recalled. And when Mom D. died my SILs gave me all the pens they could find - not a lot but included a Sheaffer cartridge pen still in it's package with carts. I haven't gotten into it at all. It's the only pen I have that I will never ink I imagine. smile.gif

isn't it lovely when they just do these things out of the blue for us. To them it probably seems like a small gesture, but I bet, as with that little Estie, you'll treasure that Wearever forever. (sniffle)

My first and prized Fountain Pen is my Grandfather's Eversharp Skyline.
Just the standard size in medium blue with a medium nib.
But if I had to sell them all one by one that would be the last to go.

Hee hee, that sounds like something my dad would do.
